BSOD on Laptop - Potentially the Discrete GPU
So, I'm writing this for a friend of mine. He's using an Acer E15 E-571G-73ST that happened to be BSOD'ing frequently in the past few weeks. One thing that we noticed is that whenever the dGPU is being used (840M), the laptop just BSODs, either idling or doing something heavy. So he decided to uninstall the dGPU drivers and used the Intel HD Graphics, then we found out that there's no more BSOD's occuring. We have used different drivers (like from 355.xx~360.xx) and the laptop still BSODs.
He has sent it back to Acer and they said that there's a fan issue so they replaced it. When he got it back, he tested it using the dGPU. On the first game he played, it BSOD'ed. Though after that it's all fine, but a few days later, the BSODs returned so he decided to uninstall the dGPU drivers again and just like last time, it's working fine. I'm currently thinking that the dGPU might be damaged since according to Acer, there's a fan issue.
