Problem with trying to reformat with win7 install

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but...
I am trying to reformat my PC which has a win7 install on it. The windows XP I put in the CD drive is not being picked up by the PC upon startup. The hard drive has gotten itself into a constant win7 repair loop. I just want to get the winXP cd to read off the CD drive so I can reformat to winXP. I enabled the option in bios to boot from the CD drive first, but no go. What are my options? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to SF :)

You might want to consider asking a moderator to move your post to the "Installation" section of the forum, as that is where the relevant expertise is to be found in high concentrations.

regardless of what stage of the install windows 7 is at, your hard drive cannot override your instruction in BIOS to boot from CD/DVD first

So as long as your 110% sure the CD/DVD drive is set to boot first then the only other reason your CD isn't booting is because the drive isn't reading the CD/DVD ?

possibly dodgy CD/DVD drive , wrong media , bad media ?

Well I figured it out, stupid DVD cable came loose from the motherboard somehow! Geez! And the PC shop I took it to, forgot to change the hard drive setting back to IDE, they had set it to RAID to clone the drive to the new PC.
