I got another bluescreen, for whatever reason no minidump was saved. On startup I kept getting no boot device detected until I hit the power button and restarted like that.
Event viewer however said this twice 3 hours earlier: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR9.
I have the attached image error in my device manager, which Windows is unable to automatically resolve with troubleshooter, I also tried to uninstall and re install which didn't work.
Is hard drive 1 the SSD or the WD? It means for some reason that the bios couldn't 'see' hard drive 1. Make sure of the cable connections on both ends. Make sure they are completely seated and secure. You may want to change Sata Cables if it continues. Have we checked the Firmware on the SSD? Make sure it is up to date.
I believe if I'm looking at the right thing (see screenshot) that the WD is hardrive 1. The cable is a little flimsy going into the WD, but the usb connection to the laptop seems good. See attachment for how far it falls down. As earlier in the thread I have now updated the SSD firmware and it is still up to date. My understanding is there is no SATA cable going into the SSD and it just slots straight onto a SATA spot on the mobo.
Am I at a point now where I need to take it to my local technician and ask about, well what please?

The SSD fits just like the original hard drive, there is no difference. The connections are exactly the same. You don't need to pay a technician to tell you that. It's pretty simple. Sorry for my comments earlier. I was thinking of a Desktop.
The screenshot of Disk Management looks OK, and I would think the SSD is disk 0, but you really can't go by Disk Management. But, on a laptop, I am pretty sure it has to be disk 0.
Have you tried running without the Western Digital connected? It may be a good idea to try that and see if it is the external drive causing the problem.
I will try to do so for a few days, but there are times where I will need to break that rule, but I won't leave it connected willy nilly. The most recent BSOD occurred without me accessing anything on the external (AFAIK, and notwithstanding automated background tasks). I will report back if I get a BSOD without the external connected.

Yes in this case there was no external hdd plugged in. A usb mini fridge thing and a usb mouse were the usb devices plugged in. I have noticed some fault with the laptop powering this mouse, I usually have to plug and unplug it once or twice to get it to work. As for the nVidia driver, I keep it up to date with the official ones.
