I had the same problem exactly,

I found out that it was the Antivirus real time scanner which was the one to blame. (ESET)
apparently, i had some large files with HTML extension (DDL's) and each time i tried to rename or create a file or folder in that area the RT tried to scan them.
resolve the issue by renaming the files or changing the antivirus...

    hope it helped....

Don't know that this would help him, considering it seems that this was working fine at one point.

Sorry...I have updated my blog entry with comments, but didn't update here.

I have determined it is something to do with going into hibernate mode.

If my computer has gone to hibernate mode, this happens when it comes out of hibernate mode.

I have to kill explorer.exe or reboot to make it work.

I had a feeling that this could be something corrupt in the registry. Disable Hibernation first and if disabling that does not work, maybe you should look into, scanning for viruses, changing your antivirus, or using a registry cleaner such as CCleaner that can help remove corrupt registry entries and clear junk files that also slow the system.

Corrupt registry entries do slow or make things in the PC harder to work.

i have also same problem by renaming any file or by creating a new folder/text document/MS word explorer.exe hangs but other process or programmes are running smoothly.
i have not installed any software, hardware or windows update recently
if any body have a solution for it plzzz post
    What anti-virus are you running?

Most scan whenever something new is created in the file system... depending on settings in the AV it might cause the delay you're seeing...

i am using KIS 9.0.0.736 also it scans only *.exe,*.com & *.bat files with heuristics analysis turned on
i am using kaspersky since last 3 years in vista no such problem was there.
after 2 days my problem gone automatically but i wondering what was the fault

No, it isn't corruption. It isn't a virus, trust me. It is just a flat out bug (with either windows or a hardware driver) that only occurs after waking up from hibernation.

I can do a clean install of Windows 7 and duplicate the issue immediately by going to hibernate and waking up.

Confirmed! We're seeing the exact thing happening on our Win 7 / Sony laptop.

Not always after the first hibernation event, but certainly after the first couple.

We are currently experimenting with the Win search/indexing to see if that fixes it...
