random BSOD before & after replacing faulty RAM

    Sorry not to reply for so long, but: good news!

    I had one crash shortly after my previous post and none since in the last week, including while playing a lot of Civ 5 on the weekend. So, as weird as it seems to me that the remnants of something I thought I'd uninstalled years ago would act up now and cause this much trouble...I think that was it.

    I'm going to wait until next week to mark this solved, just in case, but thanks a lot for your help!

    Hotspotshield can be a real pain in the rear. Mark this thread as solved. If you have another BSOD you can create a new thread.
