VMX is the configuration files of a virtual machine. If you have VMs I suspect that is why you see them activated sometimes and not others.

Your ram appears to be running fine. It is running at 1333 but could run at 2400 if you enabled XMP in bios. But it is fine to run them at 1333 with correct timings, which you do have. I really can't say what the problem is right now, but when you first told me about the ram, my first thought was the Motherboard if the ram itself is not bad. But, as far as I can tell you have not completely tested the ram yet. It takes a minimum of 8 passes.

Is all of your ram Corsair and did it come as a kit?

While I admit it is a pain, you could check and see if there are any bent CPU pins under the CPU. But, I would start running the tests talked about in Post #7.

no i dont have any virtual machines.

when i enable xmp in the bios the system will not boot.
I have try to boot with it enabled and setting the ram to run at 1333 instead of 2400 but it still wont boot!

so you think things are pointing to the Motherboard then?

And yes the ram was a kit vengeance pro 16gb

I probably should not have said that. We don't have enough info to come to that conclusion yet.

i know we dont quite have enough info yet but im trying to send this cpu back as it was not the one i wanted and i didnt realise that until today !
    I wanted the G3258.
So by the time ive tested the ram fully i should have the new cpu so that will only leave the MB and i think im running out of time or the window has just passed for me to send it back.
Im just trying to narrow it down a bit.
im in contact with MSI support to see what they have to say especially as it wont boot with the XMP setting enabled...

Is your ram on MSI's QVL List? if it isn't, that's what they are going to say. Been there, done that.

Yes I believe it's on the list of over clocked memory page on their site.
Mine has an R at the end of the number but that relates to the colour. I believe it does anyway

Ok, that's good. That is just the excuse most motherboard companies use when you have ram problems. It's your fault, if you know what I mean. The QVL list is simply the ram types they have tested and most of the time you can't find that model anyway. it does not mean no other type ram will work, just they didn't test it. It gives them an excuse to say it is your fault not a problem with the board.

    Hi
I ran FurMark for 10 mins and it didnt crash.
how long do you want me to run it foR?

Here are the voltages you asked for:

    +12 : 12.144
    +5 : 5.040
    +3.3 :3.360

    second time i looked:
    +12 : 12.232
    +5 : 5.040
    +3.3 :3.328

is the fact the pc wont boot if i enable XMP in the bios an indication of a fault? I should just need to enable it and it to use those timings, there's nothing else , right?

No, nothing else. It is supposed to set the timings correctly. Try setting it to Manual and set the timings yourself. Set the frequency and Dram Voltage yourself according to Manufacturer's specs. The problem may be the Memory Controller on the CPU. Many of them are not capable of running ram at that speed except the i7's. That is typical.

when i say that it wont boot with XMP i meant it wont boot with that enabled and the memory set back to 1333. so im not running the memory any faster so how is the memory controller not capable of running at that speed? its set to run at 1333.
