Those tests are basic, no doubt, John. But they (disc check or virus scan etc) have nothing to do for a display failure. A failing HDD or a virus does not cause a stop 0x116. Obviously those tests will not hurt, rather would be helpful; but irrelevant here for the specific issue.

There are lots of tests there, but we need to be to the point. :)

As Arc foretold the APU was faulty.
I took the APU back to the store this morning and asked for 24h expedited review. They just called back to say that they received the same error. Unfortunately they don't have this exact make in store, so I will need to choose another similar (in price) one.

Thanks for the thorough and quick help.
Hoping will not have to visit this part of the forum...ever.

One last question. How could a simple Internet browsing, like I did on the 11th break a top-of-the-line (at least somewhat) APU? It was faulty all along and just managed to keep it together for this long?

Hardware are machines ... they may break down anytime. And that is why it comes with a warranty, because the failure is not predictable.
