Bug in Explorer? With extenstions it cant "discover"

If you have a solution great. If you see this as a bug, how do you report bugs?

Now gut reaction would make you post it is 3rd party software compatablility issues not a W7 bug. But what I am concerned about is the way W7 explorer gets stuck and cannot do the simple task of deleting the.. I had to delete the files with these extension on an XP machine that was networked to the W7 machine.

I have photoImpact software that has extensions of .ufo none of the pictures with that extension will delete or show properties.

When asking to delete the Recycling window displays and just sits there and can sit there for 10 15 minutes until you exit from it. the window reads "discovering items" (It doesn't hang because although you can't cancel it, you can hit the X button)

When asking for the properties nothing happens.
when trying to move it into a folder (hoping I can delete the folder). I get stuck similar to the delete action.)

Yes the software is installed and associated with the extension. And yes, it seems the product isn't associating right with the product. But Shouldn't W7 allow you to delete the files that are no longer supported, and not force you to live with the dead wood forever? There should be something that after a period comes back and says "Items not discovered, Would you like to delete?" And then delete them, at best.

It's not a Windows bug. On my machine I can create, manipulate, and delete files with a UFO extension to my heart's content, but then my machine doesn't have the same mix of type-specific add-on handlers and anti-virus filter drivers as yours.

As a suggestion, test what happens in safe mode.

As a separate test, try to temporarily uninstall (disabling isn't good enough) your anti-virus solution, if any, because it has the architectural capacity to cause this type of problem.

You're basically looking for the driver or add-on which is interfering with the delete operations. A "vanilla" Windows machine doesn't even have any associations for *.UFO. It'll nuke those files happy-as

You gave me pause.. This is what I found. If I create a .txt file and rename the .txt to .ufo, it will delete. But if I go into Photo Impact and create a .ufo through the program.. It will not delete. So what is it trying to "discover" if it is not an association to the .ufo extension. That would allow one to be deletable, and the other not to be.. Oh well, since I deleted all my .ufo extensions.. (hope they were nothing important..) I now have a test file to play with using your suggestions.

Well I uninstalled my antivirus and also tried safe mode.. Nope, will not delete. Both are "discovering".

Is the symptom specific to files in the recycle bin? Can you delete PhotoImpact-created UFO files elsewhere?

Yes, I was able to delete them on my XP machine, through the network.. That is how I got them out.

I do see it is probably not W7.. So I am deleting all & uninstalling Photo Impact, and I'm in search of a new photo editor.
