    BSOD atikmdag.sys

"Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has recovered"

That pops up very often on my screen, after the screens flashes in one color or the other for a few seconds.
Plus, I get a BSOD every now and then too.

The display driver is extremely old.
    Code:
        Image name: atikmdag.sys
        Timestamp: Wed Sep 01 07:12:54 2010
It should fail. See how it goes with the latest WHQL driver installed. Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then install the CCC 14.4 WHQL only.

Let us know for any further BSOD or display driver stopped responding issue after doing it.

If you are having a stable system, then there should not be any issue, isnt it?

But you are reporting an issue. Your display is failing, even with the driver supplied by OEM. Auch an old driver must to fail. So you MUST to update the driver.

And here comes the problem. You cannot install any driver other than that your laptop manufacturer supplies. Where can I get my laptop graphics drivers?

Your laptop manufacturer does not make any graphics chip. They just implement some BIOS settings to control it, and hides that settings from you so that you cannot change it at your need or at your choice. Then they leaves you without updating the drivers in their listings.

So the origin of the issue is your OEM's BIOS settings, and no solution is there as they dont update their drivers.

Just take your computer to Lenovo and ask them to fix it for you. I dont see any other way.

No, this issue is not solved. Dont mark it.

I am a nvidia user, I can solve switchable graphics issues for nvidia, a few times. Some examples .....

But I am not aware of what AMD does. I have never used any sort of AMD graphics.

If those threads gives you any idea as to how to proceed, you may. Ask me, or anybody else for any assistance/information you need. But I am not able to help you does not mean that your issue is solved.

I will call other geeks .... if they have any idea for you.

This might be a totally different thing, and might not be of any help, but as an AMD / Intel switchable graphics user in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Build 10074 on HP laptops, this works for me, I get no more blue screens:
    1. Download the Intel Driver Update Tool
    2. Run the tool, download but do not install the latest driver for Intel HD graphics
    3. Disconnect the PC from network (turn WiFi OFF, disconnect the Ethernet cable)
    4. Uninstall the Intel display drivers in Device Manager
    5. Uninstall the AMD display drivers in Device Manager
    6. Disable the AMD display drivers in Device Manager
    7. Reboot to BIOS
    8. Disable Switchable Graphics
    9. Still disconnected from the network, reboot to Windows
    10. Install the Intel drivers downloaded in step 1 & 2
    11. Shut down the PC
    12. Reconnect network
    13. Boot normally

The AMD GPU and Switchable Graphics are now totally disabled, the PC is using the Intel HD graphics. In my case and on all machines, the blue screens do no longer occur.
