    BSOD playing games

Hi, this started about 3 weeks ago while playing Fallout 3 and started out of the blue. I tried updating the new drivers, a fresh OS install and using DDU to remove the drivers.

I just got a BSOD stating "atikmdag.sys..". I have uploaded the files in the correct format hopefully.

    Thanks for your time.

Edit: Forgot to add that I kept getting the display driver has crashed and recovered error while playing Fallout 3 and Anno 2070 aswell. - Windows 7 64bit

Hello, psychobean and welcome to the forms. I will try to assist you. You only had 1 dump file, dated today. It said, as you know, it was your graphics driver.

    Code:

    VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116)
Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.
    Arguments:
Arg1: fffffa800a9f74e0, Optional pointer to internal TDR recovery context (TDR_RECOVERY_CONTEXT).
Arg2: fffff88003ce5970, The pointer into responsible device driver module (e.g. owner tag).
Arg3: 0000000000000000, Optional error code (NTSTATUS) of the last failed operation.
Arg4: 000000000000000d, Optional internal context dependent data.
A Video TDR fault means basically the graphics driver crashed but did not recover in time, so the system assumes a video failure and shuts down to protect itself. This is your current driver

    Code:
    atikmpag
    start end module name
    fffff880`03cda000 fffff880`03d71000 atikmpag T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: atikmpag.sys
        Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmpag.sys
        Image name: atikmpag.sys
        Timestamp: Tue Mar 31 15:09:30 2015 (551AFEFA)
        CheckSum: 000990D1
        ImageSize: 00097000
        Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
If you are overclocking anything, please set everything to default levels.

If you don't already have one, get yourself a good CPU and GPU monitoring programs. Please keep a close watch on both temps while gaming. I would also like you to run a GPU stress test. The temps will rise very quickly and very high. If they get too high, stop the test. I don't recommend Speedfan, but please follow this tutorial and run Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark. Let it run until the temps quit rising and level out for a while. Before you shut it down, please post a screenshot. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

You said it started about 3 weeks ago. Did you install any new Hardware or Software around that time? Also please add your PSU and CPU Cooler Manufacturer and model to your system specs.

Hi thanks for replying, I have uplaoded a screenshot of the FurMark test, i only allowed it to go to 93c as a precaution. I have also used the default settings for the GPU for days now and that doesnt provide any working solution.

Please go to Device Manager and expand Display Adaptors and tell me what it says there.

What program are you using to monitor your GPU temps? 93°C is entirely too hot. Most programs allow you to set a custom fan profile to keep the temps down.

Also, please compare your screenshot of Furmark and see if you can see the difference, other than temps

I have expanded the Display Adaptor menu and it says "AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series". Regarding the difference between the two FurMark images...holy cow. Yes, there is a hell of a lot different. I guess my GPU is dying?

It could be that or it could be drivers or the Motherboard PCIe slots, and it could be temps. What model and Manufactirer is your PSU. Also, if you would, please go into BIOS and give me the readings for the +12V, +5V and +3.3V.

If you would, please configure a custom fan profile with whatever software you have or you could use MSI Afterburner (Afterburner | MSI Gaming Series) In the settings set it where the fan profile shows on screen the temps, fan speed and any of the other stats you would like to see. Then download and install Ungine Heaven 4.0 (Download Unigine 'Heaven' DX11 Benchmark 4.0 | techPowerUp). set it to the preset extreme (picture below) and run the benchmark. When you run it, give it a minute to load and once it starts moving, click on Benshmark in the top left . Post a screenshot just before the benchmark ends. Watch for artifacting. Your card should run it with very good quality. This is what the setup looks like. Then click run and then the benchmark once it starts moving.

The PSU is a NovaTech Power Station 850, Novatech PowerStation Black Edition 850W Silent ATX2 Modular Power Supply | NOV-PSB850.

For the rest, I will do that now, update in a bit.

    VOltage:

    +12v = 12.288V
    +5v = 5.160V
    +3.3v = 3.376V

For the Benchmarking.... I got the Display Driver has stopped but has recovered etc.... However there was a steady temperature around 78-79c at around scene 20 or something.

Tried to run it several times and it always come up with the display driver has stopped etc....

Try reinstalling the Video Driver. I will give you some suggestions to help give you a clean install and not install things you don't need or use. That will cut down on the possibility of driver conflicts. The only thing you actually need is the Display Driver.

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from https://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...ndows-7-a.html . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall your current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is the Display Driver.

I will do this now, thanks for taking the time to help me.

Update: I have cleaned the drivers and installed the AMD Display Driver from 14.4... I am now running a benchmark test using the program you gave me.

Update 2: It crashed again with just the AMD Display Drive from 14.4. The same Display driver has stopped but recovered etc....
