BSOD. tried everything I know still does not work

Hello everyone,

So last night I got the famous BSOD as well sadly enough.

So it started last night when I was watching a stream and chatting with friends. Something small fell on the laptop and it shut down. Then I restarted my laptop and windows did not work any more. Just got the black screen and on the end a message:
The file is possible corrupt, the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.
The odd thing is my Ubuntu which I have also installed works perfectly, nothing wrong with it. (both have been working fine for 5 months, no problems until now)

Checked many forums and many gave as advice change your ram which I did, the HDD seems to be fine since Ubuntu works well. (checked Ubuntu start up too but all works well and no errors anywhere).
So it seems the problem is not with hardware but just with software from windows.

I got into the bios and can reset all but I have many important files which I do not want to lose. Many places say use the windows cd but I do not have it on my since I am currently in another country.

Also when starting up Windows 7 I tried pressing f8 and f5 to get in recovery mode but that does not work. Nothing happens no matter how many times I spam the button. Same error message.

Not sure what to do any more. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hey,

I have read the instructions and it seems I miss the information from that program.
But since I cannot get into windows I cannot install it.
it does not work on linux.

Thats why I have not linked anything from it.

Found a windows 7 usb and went in f8. Where I manged to do repairs but it said it could not fix it.
The recovery button does not work, gives a error and does nothing.
After I went in cmd and tried different things.
first to make dir c: for example since it was listed in x:
But it can only find the usb which has windows install on it and not the drives. But in linux I can see all windows files....
So chkdsk does not work. or other commands like sfc scannow which I found in another thread.

I have no idea what to do next since nothing seems to work.... Kinda desperate since the usual options all fail with my pc for some odd reason.

Sorry I cannot link it but I have no idea how without getting access into windows

Try booting into Linux and search the windows OS for C:Windows/Minidump. If you find it, copy the minidump folder and paste it somewhere easy to get to, zip it up and upload it here with the next post.

Thanks for responding. So I found the minidump folder so zipped it. It said nothing was inside but uploaded it anyway.

First, in the recovery environment, the operating system is not always C, it can be any letter. X is usually the installation media you are booting from. Can you go into BIOS, go to the boot section and see if BIOS recognizes your hard drive. In other words see if it is listed there as a boot option, if it is there make it the boot option. I would suggest you back up all of your personal files to an external device. While you are in the BIOS, look and see what the sata mode is set to (IDE,AHCI or Raid).

Yes saw different letters, like e, x etc. When I went in cmd from the windows boot disk X seemed to be it.

Went to BIOS and yes it does recognize my harddrive, was the third option to boot from, made it the first. (got 7 options in total, disk, usb, floppy etc)
Do not have enough space on my external harddrive. So can only back some up.
Did try to copy from my windows partition into my linux one and it worked fine except a few. Most files work fine.
I could not see the SATA option, only that it said native mode enabled (could disable it as well)

Are you dual booting Windows and Linux? After making the bios changes to the correct boot option, can you boot into windows now? If you have to do a clean install, you run a bigt chance of losing what you don't backup. Most of what you need will be in the C:/users/yourusername , you should see documents, Music, Pictures and Videos. You can also see Downloads and desktop.

Yes I am dual booting. Installed linux first and right after windows 7. Worked both perfect for 5 months before this happened.
I can still see the windows 7 option in my boot menu but when I click it I get a BSOD and after a while the error message.
So after making the HDD the first option nothing really changes (just cannot select windows anymore since somehow a different boot program started. Normally grub comes and I have both options if the HDD is not the first option. When it is I can only choose linux and the boot program is lilo. (not sure if it is called a boot program)

Like I said before I can almost access all my files, except all my data from my browers (if there is a way I would like to know) so I do not want to reinstall windows 7.
Also some data does not copy so it seems a small part is broken?

P.S. this is the only computer I have, so on linux at the moment but yes would like to use both again.
