BSOD when playing on a wow pserver with a huge custom patch

I've been playing on a world of warcraft private server with a custom patch (5GB) since yesterday (includes lotsa graphical changes). Windows was acting weird, screen was shaking, dislocating, had to restart my GPU thro device manager to solve it.
I should've stopped playing right away, I know.

Today while playing again, I got a BSOD, had to force a restart.
Everything seemed fine till I opened a normal WoW client (no customized stuff) as soon as the login screen appeared I got another BSOD.
Then it all got even worse.

I can no longer acces my desktop, I get to the login screen where I have to fill in my password, it loads and I hear the windows opening sound but it gets stuck and windows automatically restarts. Disabling my GPU thro device manager while in safe mode and keeping it disabled is the only way to get windows running "normally".

All hardware parts are 6 years old.
Did my GPU give up cuz it's old? or that custom patch ate my GPU alive?

I hope none of the above..

    additional information:

    - completely removed GPU drivers and reinstalled
    - tried everything on https://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html
    - I use MSI afterburner & their on screen display to keep track of my fps/temps/gpu usage and my temps seemed fine while playing

I know specs can be found in the files but here you go

cpu: amd phenom II x6 1090t
    gpu: amd sapphire HD 6870
    mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M
    8GB ram, windows 7 64-bit (home premium)

Hello Chulain, and welcome to the forums. Please put your system specs in the 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of your last post. Please include the Manufacturer and Model of each if possible. Also please include your PSU and CPU cooler. These are the instructions I usually give.

Please fill out your System Specs

       Information
Your System Specs will help us to help you, and doing it in this manner will make them available to all helpers in every post and keep us from hunting for them. We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. System Info - See Your System Specs

Can you boot into Windows in Safe Mode and get graphics or boot into BIOS and get graphics? Your dump files are both the same

    Code:
    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error
source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the
WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error conditon.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000000000000, Machine Check Exception
    Arg2: fffffa8007f2f038, Address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure.
    Arg3: 0000000000000000, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
    Arg4: 0000000000000000, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
If you can, please boot into BIOS and give me the values of your +12V, +5V and +3.3V. Also, if you can, please boot into Safe Mode and open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt system files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Does your board have on board graphics and do you have another pcie X16 slot?

    Hi, thanks for responding.

Yeah I remember skipping that part during registration because firefox was extremely slow with this onboard GPU and the captcha didn't work with IE for some reason.

I've added some of my systems specs, let me know if there's anything else you want to know regarding my hardware.

I've done this and I was still getting errors on the third time.
I assume you want to check out that log file? Included in the attachement.

As for the Voltages I've got the following results:
    Vcore [1.280V]
    3.3V [3.248V]
    5V [4.966V]
    12V [12.094V]

Yes it has an onboard GPU (Integrated ATI Radeon HD 3000 GPU) and does not have another PCIE x16 slot

I won't be able to respond today as I gotta study for an exam, Thanks for trying to help me out, talk to you soon!

edit: one PCIE x16 slot, sorry!

Please go to Windows Update and click on Update History in the left column. See if you have KB3022345 installed. If you do, please uninstall it (Windows Update - Uninstall an Update). Reboot and try to run sfc /scannow again.

You have 2 brands of ram installed, which is asking for trouble.

are you sure your PSU is not CWT instead of CTW? Plus, Sapphire requires a 500 W PSU for your card SAPPHIRE HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE#. That is not to say it will not work, but you would be pushing your PSU close to it's limits.

Please try to boot into safe mode and uninstall your Graphics drivers. Once they are uninstalled try to boot normally. If that works I am going to give you some suggestions of how to install the new drivers, which you should have alreadt downloaded.

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from https://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/329659-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall your current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is the Display Driver.

Yep, typo, it's been working fine for 6 years tho.

That's how I reinstalled them before and i did it again this way just to make sure, nothing changed.

Today I've decided to reinstall windows 7, immediately after installing my GPU drivers, the blue screen returned.

I'm concluding from this that the GPU is dead, I'll be borrowing a friend's GPU soon to see if there's anything wrong with my motherboard.

If there's anything else you'd like me to try, let me know.

Yep, typo, it's been working fine for 6 years tho.
This means to me you have been pushing your power supply to it top limits for a long time which is not good.

    Back to lurking.

Replaced my GPU with an Nvidia 7600 GS, removed my onboard drivers with the tool and installed the Nvidia drivers in safemode.

    Got another blue screen.

Think it's the motherboard or PSU? Something wrong with the PCIE slot of my motherboard?
Btw 7600 GS only uses 30W.

Attachement has 2 DMP's, one with my own card (sapphire 6870) the other one is the Nvidia 7600 GS, I've renamed the files.

It could be, but that is a hard one to tell and be sure. With you booting into safe mode, the video drivers don't load, but they should not BSOD. It can also be your Motherboard.

    With your Sapphire in

    Code:
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.
    BugCheck 1000007E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff880063d784e, fffff880031827e8, fffff88003182040}
    Probably caused by : AtihdW76.sys ( AtihdW76+484e )

That is the ATI Function Driver for HD Audio Service

    With the other card in

    Code:

    BugCheck 116, {fffffa800674a010, fffff880072e56c0, 0, 2}

Please run Seatools for DOS both the short and the long test
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html#Part3
Let's see how that works out.

Let's see how that works out.

Didn't manage to get that iso on a USB, also tried with other programs, some saying "iso is invalid". Tried on 2 usb's (one used to reinstall windows 7 earlier and it was fine)

Tried Seatools for Windows instead of DOS(?) and it worked. I've done both tests and they both passed.
However the setting in my bios for my hard drive was at IDE, I should've changed it to AHCI? The guide you've linked didn't say anything about IDE so I thought it'd be fine, I'll do it again on AHCI if it matters.

In the meantime I've found out the GPU's broken, I've tried it on another system and had the same problems on it.

Also found out that the Nvidia card I've tried earlier had wrong drivers, I'm currently using a temporary card, ASUS EAH 5570 (AMD) and I don't have any issues (for now).

However I would like to find out if the PSU broke my 6870 before buying a new card.

Thanks a lot for helping me so far, hopefully you can help me find out what went wrong.

Here's another screenshot, hours before my 6870 gave up.
