18 BSOD's and counting. win7 x64.

Hey there,

I keep getting BSOD's on my Machine. They vary from most being System service exceptions, to IRQL not less or equal, and a couple more that I cannot remember. My event log has recorded 18 thus far, but I've had more - before I installed Windows 7 x64 from XP-64bit.

They are all event ID 41...I'm assuming that's generic and all from the same issue?

I'm using:

Windows 7 x64 (BSODs also happend before I had w7 installed.)
i7 @ 2.6
P6T mobo
gtx260 gpu
6GB G.Skill ram.

Nothing's overclocked, everything is stock.

I've ran memtest and it came back clean - I did 1 pass...but I figure that's fine. I'm certain I've installed up to date drivers for my gtx260, etc. Is there anything that can solve these issues? I believe I've flashed my BIOS with the new firmware as well....

Event 41 points to a hardware problem, which we could also conclude by you having the same problem with two OS's. We will need you to provide as detailed as possible info on your system, please fill in "My system specs" on the left lower corner of your post, as well as you can

You have to run memtest for many many times, preferably leave it overnight. It only catches big problems when you run it once.

If it's any consolation... it's got to either be my RAM or Video card from what I gather.

I multi-task quite a bit and run CS3 & CS4 (cs4 uninstalled yesterday to see if that was the problem). I push well over 1GB .tiff files..but haven't worked on anything new since the start of the crashes.

I was once doing a batch process of 160 pictures, resizing them, and I got a bsod. Other than that, I believe that's the only time I'm in Photoshop and a crash has happened. I've been reluctant to work since I would rather not have a crash in the middle of a project.

I almost always run itunes when it crashes, or watching a video among other things.....if I remember correctly.

The hardware is unreliable

The most likely culprit is the RAM, though it is impossible to be certain given the info available.

Many of your minidumps show a memory corruption pattern known as a "stride" which is characteristic of address line issues on the way to or from RAM. For example, given some fictitious data:

01011011
01011001
01101001
00011000
11001011
11111000
10110010
01101001

Only the 6th bit of each byte is mangled, as if the problem is "striding" through the data. In reality, the selector which controls that line (RAM is like a matrix) is bad, so that any byte stored there is likely to have its 6th bit chewed up.

Several remaining minidumps reveal another hardware defect signature known as "IP misalignment". It is also usually caused by unreliable memory.

The chances of a software cause are unfortunately vanishingly small, so I'd like to second WallyInNC's recommendation to run some heavy duty memory diagnostics - for many hours if necessary.

I ran Memtest last night for about 5 hours...here's a quick picture from my phone..
