BSOD every time I exit Windows 7

Getting a BSOD every time Windows shuts down. Looks to me like it is related to the graphics card driver being out of date, so I attempt to install the newest driver from AMD web site. When installer reaches driver to install, instantly causes a BSOD. Have gone through AMD's instructions on how to uninstall their graphics drivers and make a system "clean install", but BSOD continues to be generated on every Windows shut down or attempt to install new version of graphics driver. Have run /sfc scannow several times and Windows reports there are several corrupt files that were not able to be restored. Have also run Microsoft's FixIt program uninstaller to scrub off all AMD software before running their installer and problem still occurs when installer reaches graphics card driver to replace. I'm attaching the log analyzer and have put all the details on my system in my profile so you highly intelligent people helping us poor BSOD victims can see what is going on. Please let me know if you need more details on what is going on to help with my problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

Here is some more info from the BSOD screen. Error is being generated by ATIKMPAG.SYS at FFFFF88005256CD1. Stop: 0x0000003B System_Service_exception.

Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

All Windows 7 drivers are up to date. AMD drivers are not, but the installer BSOD's every time I try to update them. Have tried running in Safe Mode, but then the AMD install program cannot find the type of graphics card to install the driver for it.

Thought these extra details might be helpful.

First of all there are no dumps in your logs. Follow the steps below to ensure you capture future dump files.

    1. Open Advanced System Settings
    2. Click on Settings in Startup & Recovery
    3. Make sure both boxes indicated below are checked
    4. In the dropdown box ensure you're set to record Small Memory Dumps

Second, you still have nVidia software installed on your machine. Did you ever have an nVidia card installed and did you uninstall it via Device Manager before replacing it? This is probably all down to conflicting drivers.

Thirdly, this Startup is ludicrous. 34 items (including nVidia stuff), Windows needs none of these at Startup and all you need starting with Windows is your AV. Remove everything from Startup except for your AV after uninstalling all of the nVidia stuff.
    Code:
    Sidebar %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE

Thanks for your suggestions. They haven't worked so far, but let me report on my status of doing them.

    1. I enabled small memory dump in Advanced System Settings. It looks to me (after several attempts all resulting in the same result) that the BSOD crash is happening too quickly for Windows to write the mini-dump to C:\Windows\Minidump. When I look after rebooting, that directory is empty when I manually look at it or have the dump file organizer try to grab it. I go back into the Advanced System Setting and verified that the check boxes for mini-dump are still checked and they are, so my assumption that Windows is not getting enough time to save the dump file before rebooting may be valid. If I should try something else, please let me know.

    2. I took the SSD hard drive from my previous system and put it into this new desktop system after I received it and figured I could manage to go into the hardware settings and software specifications in the startup programs and get it to work without too much problem. It seems to have worked with the exception of the problem with the BSOD and graphic driver install issue we are working with here. I am sure that is why the NVIDIA drivers were still on the system. I went in to Control Panel and uninstalled everything NVIDIA and rebooted, then tried to run the AMD installer again and the same BSOD happened (although I can't see if the details are the same since the BSOD just starts to come up when the system reboots and I can't get a chance to look at the text and see if it resembles what was coming up before. I also ran uninstalles for every program I could recognize that was a left-over from my previous system and was no longer needed, and then rebooted. Same problem is happening.

    3. I went into my Startup folder for All Users and removed all of the shortcuts to programs that were showing up there. I assume there are more programs in some other startup folder somewhere since you mentioned there are 30+ existing startup entries and I was able to removed probably 7 from the folder I was able to access. There should be quite a few startup entries from before that are gone now, but not all of them. I may need help knowing where to go to see where the left-over ones are residing in order to get rid of all of them.

I am attaching the updated log file to this post (one that still does not have the minidump in it). Thanks for your suggestions, Boozad. Let me know if you have any other ideas for where I can go.

It takes time for the computer to write the dump file.. If you're rebooting as soon as you see the bsod then you're not letting it write. You should see a progress counter at the bottom of the screen after a few seconds.

Also, got to start and search msconfig then click the startup tab. You should be able to uncheck the unnecessary startup programs there and then reboot when prompted.

I'm not rebooting as soon as the BSOD is happening - the system is doing it automatically. When I have the check box in Advanced System Settings for Automatically Restart as is shown in the instructions for BSOD threads, the automatic reboot is happening as soon as the BSOD occurs. No time to log the dump file on the system's following the option. When I deselect the box for Automatically Restart, I get the BSOD text screen and it says it has logged the error, but nothing is ending up in the c:\windows\minidump directory. Something is preventing Windows from being able to log the small dump file as is specified in this thread's instructions. The progress counter at the bottom of the BSOD screen is not showing any progress text for logging the dump file when the system is done rebooting.

As for the suggestion to go into Msconfig, that was a great suggestion! I had totally forgotten that that tool existed and I was able to go in to the startup tab and deselect all the programs that were not needed by my system anymore. I have some that are still required that I left checked, but I don't see that any of them are likely to be contributing to the error that is causing the BSOD either at Windows shutting down or when the AMD install program is getting to the driver installation and the BSOD appears as well. Looking for the next thing to try - all I have been able to get to work is Safe Mode when none of the drivers are being loaded and the AMD install program is not finding any products to be able to install the drivers for. Don't know what else to try - do I need to go to AMD's tech support and see if they have any experience with BSOD's happening with their drivers being installed?

    Solution

Well, I solved my own problem. Here is what I had to do:

    1. Go into device manager. Saw 2 instances of AMD Radeon R9 200 Series. Right-clicked on both of them and selected Disable. Rebooted. Did not receive a BSOD this time.

    2. Loaded the most recent graphics drivers using AMD Catalyst Control Center. I could hear Windows sound for enabling/disabling a device several times while the install process took place. It proceeded past the place where BSOD was occurring every time. Rebooted the system. No BSOD. All graphics drivers and software were updated to latest versions.

So, the key was to disable (not uninstall or update device driver options I could have chosen in Windows) the graphics card drivers (why there are 2 I don't know because I only have 1 graphics card) in Device Manager and then successfully run the install program to install the latest drivers that AMD has. This apparently was what was at least contributing to if not causing the BSOD on my system that was so severe it didn't allow my system time to write details to the log/dump file. I hope this can help someone else in the future who has the same error I was getting figure out how to get a solution for it. As for the help from members who helped me clean up my start menu and uninstall unnecessary drivers for no-longer existing graphics card, thanks for the great help and I hope to see you around in the forums!

Good to hear you solved your issue but I'd consider a fresh install of Windows. Carrying a drive over from a previous system can and does cause issues like this, and as you have an OEM licence the OS is no longer legal.
