Complete rebuild but still getting BSOD
This has been along saga dating back to my original installation of Windows 7. I had planned to upgrade from XP and purchased a "student" copy of Win 7 Pro. The spec of my PC was very different to its current incarnation, with an older Gigabyte 970A MB and an AMD Phenom processor. I had BSOD's from the outset taking several attempts to install Win 7. There does not seem to be a pattern to the occurances with the PC often crashing when not in use but just idling. Gradually I've changed the following to try to cure the BSOD problem.
MB - now newer 970A rev 3
Processor AMD FX 6300
Graphics card
power supply
case
memory - started with 4Gb DDR3 replaced it with another 4Gb stick and as no improvement in BSODs eventually used both in the appropriate slots to give 8Gb on the MB.
Windows activated without problems and has continually updated on line as expected.
Some of the software I use is quite old and I suspected dodgy drivers but have never suceeded in finding a culprit. So this time I decided to make a completely clean install on a brand new hard disc. It crashed while installing Win7 (I think the BSOD has a message to the effect page fault in non paged area ?? Does this make sense?) and I had to clear the disc and restart the installation process. I removed one of the 4Gb memory modules and suceeded in getting Win 7 installed but have had several crashes since. At the moment there is no other software installed other than AVG free and Firefox 40.0.2. I had previously moved away from AVG and tried Avast as an alternative but no improvement.
Grateful for any advice as I seem to be running around in circles. Eventually I want to upgrade to Win 10 (no rush, 10 months to go) but need a stable system first.
