Seeminly random BSOD pointing to atikmpag

    Hello,

I've been having some difficulty with a new computer. The BSoD seem to be kind of random to me...sometimes it happens while playing graphic intensive video games (FFXIV/Witcher) other times it seems to happen while streaming movies on firefox.

I've also had some issues with the USB ports on the front of the computer. One such example of the issues I'm having with that would be, the other day my sister plugged her smart phone into one of the USB drives to charge it. I lost all display (displaying on my vizo smart tv via hdmi) and the TV said "No signal". The computer was still running but I was unable to regain my display. I tried unplugging things and turning the tv on/off. I had to manually reset the computer. This has happened more then a few times.

I'm not sure if that is related to my BSOD problem or not. They both seem to be a MB/vid card issue.

I've the attached the suggested zip file, let me know if there is any more information needed.

    Thank you :)

Hello and welocome alikona fisrt things first mate

    SYTEM SPECS ADD IN
Can we have some system specs please as what you have posted gives us not thatmuch to work with and given there are so many manufacturers of components and configurationsthat do influence what goes on within any given machine and OS.
System Info - See YourSystem Specs
In the dumps there is indeed a graphical problem and I would suggest you uninstall the Catalyst Control Centre first

Now as for the sister I would break it gently to her which is he power charging port is on your machine as there is usually one one for that purpose the others will struggle or not work at all and maybe hence throw your system into the black hole of chaos

Apologies, I assumed the attached report would include that.

I've also updated my profile with the tool provided in the link you posted.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64, Service Pack 1
    Browser: Firefox
    MB: z97-G45 Gaming
Vid Card: AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
    RAM: 16GB (8x2) Corsair Vengance DDR3
    CPU: Intel i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
    Power Supply: Corsair RM650
    HDD: Toshiba 2TB
    Corsair H60 liquid CPU cooler

    Peripherals -
Display: Vizio Smart TV via HDMI
    Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard
    Razer Naga Epic mouse

I've also some more symptoms to report. Lately when I try to stream movies online my entire computer freezes. I have to manually restart the computer when this happens.

For whatever reason I've been having issues with my mouse. It's not recognized when I start up the computer. I have to unplug/plug it in before I am able to use it. I did read users complain about the Mouse/Keyboard specific USB ports this MB has, for the record neither my mouse or keyboard are plugged into those special USB ports. It also does not matter if I switch my mouse to another USB port.

I'm assuming I've missed some drivers some where? X.x

Ok mate these are your drivers Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design 64 the BIOS ones are in a another spot try the USB at least.

Now I do notice you have a reasonable size PSU in but could you do two things to clear them out of the way this eXtreme Power Supply Calculator and let s know if you have enough power - a good guide is tohave a 30% overkill (in my mind) and this ditty of mine if the machine will run long enough to complete it - it isn't that long to run anyway.

    Using HW Info
    PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right handwindow select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will seewhat the volts are doing see my pic. Now the section you want will be labelled- fpr example Asus boards usually have "Nuvoton" and Gigabyte boards"ITE" in any case the section you want will have Vbatt or VBAT in it(dead give away)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for thatbut for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main lefthand side panel
    FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
    PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in andthen click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in theright hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds andother essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

    Use PART A:

Ok, I went through and removed catalyst control center and did a clean install for my vid card drivers. I reinstalled the drivers listed on the MB site for the USB ports.

The power supply calculator is giving me a load around 280, and recommending a 500W PSU.

Perhaps I'm reading your post incorrectly but here's a screenshot of what I'm getting from HWiNFO:

No mate that was spot on the volts all ok and the size one you have fine. At least it rules out the power side of things.

Now the problem with the graphics is the next issue that needs sorting and first we need to look at the temps can you run Speccy and see what they are say on idle for example https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

Two more tings we can do is to run a test on the card with Furmark FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net but you do need to watch the temps whenrunnignhtis one and we might even have to run a memetest very tedious but again to rule out any issues from that area.

    MEMTEST

The memtest you will need to make a bootable disk / stick andset the BIOS to boot from the optical or USB and it will take a fair time torun- some leave it overnight. http://www.memtest.org/

But one thing is very important you must let the test run for at least 8 passes any less and thefindings are no good. Now if errors come up straight away then you can stop it- see my pics. Now if there are errors and you have more than one stick of RAMin then you will need to test each stick ie remove the sticks and replace stick1 in slot 1 and test no errors do the same in slot 2 with stick 1 no errorsthen repeat the process with stick 2 - that will show up the faulty stick - theother thing is it could be a faulty slot but most unusual.

It is a very lengthy and tedious process but worth it if youhave errors.
I have attached a readout pic of errors - it is the older version but gives you an idea of what to look for.

Before you do any of that unless the board is very new do this

    SLOT CLEANING

Now as for the slots to clean them use a strip of old credit card about1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free cloth over the end dab on some form ofalcohol - isopropyl alcohol (if you want to be pedantic) but any ethanol basedalcohol even methylated spirits (called rubbing alcohol in the US) are good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s and also the contacts of thesticks or cards - not the stick but some lint free cloth of course. See my picfor the sick but please be very gentle doing it if you are in any doubt -please ask before doing it but I use this all the time and have yet to damageanything. Plus make sure the card/sticks contacts are clean too but begentle

Well this is becoming rather depressing D; Prior to writing this response I had a black screen, I restarted and began typing this. After maybe 10mins of being back up and running I BSoD with just having Chrome and Skype running.

This is the first time I've BSoD since I uninstalled Catalyst. The black screen where it seems my GPU is turning off is much more persistent. It seems to happen when I am using a browser, particularly if I am using flash applications or streaming videos. I uninstalled Firefox and tried using Chrome instead.

I do not believe it is overheating, if it is then there is something wonky with my sensors. I forgot to take a SS after I finished the FurMark test so I started it again and let it run for awhile, the pic below is pretty consistent with that my temps were at during the first test.

The Memtest didn't bring up any errors either :/

Everything on this computer is around a month and a half old except the video card. It's a hand me down from my cousin and I'm starting to wonder if perhaps its just bad =S though he told me he had no issues with it.

I've not yet tried cleaning the MB/GPU connector pins yet. That will be my next step, maybe there is some contamination on the GPU that I did not notice when I was installing it. It did sit in a box in an ESD bag for around 6 months.

Well that puts a little more perspective on things a) isthe thing bad b) is it in some way not compatible with theMB c) I think a roll back on the driver might be an ideaas it is not working with the up to date one d) consider a newcard and personally I prefer NVidia - I have had less / no problemssince switching from AMD stuff.
Another alternative would be to redo the thermal compound on the GPU and give it a general spring clean. After that reinstall the driver which is our old friend the CCC Desktop

But to really honest the NVidia should be considered - which one welll it that depends on how hard you drive the machine. By the way I do notice you use a TV for a monitor ? any reason except size?
