BSOD for 1ms on boot, cant see the bsod words :S
Hey everyone,
So i built a pc for a friend (4 yrs ago). He is quite bad at IT and has just called up and said it died the other day, could i have a look at it, which is where I'm at.
Although I'm a programmer (just databases) and can build pcs, im at a loss where to go, but here are the current details:
Windows 7 64 x
2TB OS
2TB Backup with a current (15/8/15) Image and backup stuff on it.
When I try to boot it it gets half way thought the windows logo and blue screens and trys to reboot etc etc.
What I've done so far:
- put the hdds in my own pc and done disc checks = "no errors"
- Copied the data from OS hdd to be safe
- disc chekced the backup disc and looked at the backup dates.
Restarted the guys PC with just the OS disc in and nothing else, still same issue.
My idea from now:
-Reinstall Windows 7 on the current disc, maybe it just Uber corrupt, but not actually HW failing?
- If that fails, he is more than happy to get a new HD and i can do a repair/system image on that disc.
ISSUES - because this isnt 'my niche":
- he has taken off the windows 7 sticker and i dont know his product code now :S
- Tried running "Produkey" and looking at "all windows installs on all discs" and it doesnt pick up the W7 from his, just the W10 from my own disc.
Soooo,. sorry for the long post but i wanted to show I'm not looking for a handout of "read the book" but I've tried some strats and am at a loss..
Can W7 be repaired from the backup image if it is BSOD before it gets to windows??
Any ideas/suggestions welcome,
TIA
