What sort of Pretzel Logic is that?
You got me. This should have been a simple driver update. I see what you were saying now earlier.

Should I be right-clicking every one of those 7 items and uninstalling? And then rebooting?
That was going to be my next suggestion, so yeah, go ahead and try that.

Do all of them before restarting, make sure nothing is plugged into them either.

Unplugged everything from the USB ports and rebooted, getting the message that driver software HAD NOT been successfully installed. A quick trip to Device Mgr confirms that I still have the 7 yellow triangles with the exclamation points, and I still have the same corrupted message when right-clicking and selecting properties.

No offense to you, but does this now need to be shifted to another sub-forum, where some non-BSOD individuals might have greater insights? I don't know how much overlap there is in your particular skill sets.

I suppose I could see if I can restore the laptop to a time before I wrote in to the forum, but even if it works, that'll just get me back to the original BSOD problem.

I've asked for some others to look in on this.

I have started a new topic in the Hardware & Devices subforum
USB Ports Corrupted After Graphics Driver Update
and, most unfortunately, I followed pooch's instructions in the USB Driver - General Fix for Problems tutorial. End result - USBs still corrupted and my network printer is now gone.

If nothing positive happens I'm gonna look for a restore point before I began this, but I'll wait a day or so.

Thanks for getting a second opinion.

No Idea If This BSOD Is A Continuation Of Previous Thread

For the last several weeks my laptop has been working superbly. Several hours ago I picked it up and it was on the sign on screen. Once I put in my password I got a msg that Windows had recovered from a serious problem. I assumed it was related to a webpage on IE11 that I couldn't get rid of without completely shutting down the browser.

So I ignored the msg, recovered my IE11 webpages and put the laptop down for another hour. When I picked it up I got that same recovery msg. So this time I'm posting.

My previous thread from about 3 weeks ago has been closed, so I can't add anything to it.

    It's still open.

I understand ya derekimo, I hope I can assist without extra issues.

    Hi boweasel,

Please run the DM Log Collector tool again, there are quite some important files missing.
Before you upload the zip file, please make sure the zip contains at least the following files
    • 18 .txt,
    • 1 .nfo

If the zip does NOT contain these files, please try booting in safe mode and run the DM Log Collector tool again.

I ran the tool again in normal mode - and did not see any files that looked like the 2 you mention. So I ran it again in safe mode - and I still fail to see those files. But here it is anyway...

It seems there is an update for the AMD graphics drivers.
Please uninstall everything of AMD graphics using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer. Please only install the drivers!
       Note
    Please uninstall in safe mode!

Need a little bit more information axe0
    • Where would you like me to get the latest AMD graphics driver. HP? AMD?
    • And if you'd read the entire topic from the beginning you'd see that the last time I attempted a driver update it ended up killing my external hard drive (well, actually killing my USB capabilities). Fixing that turned out to be much more of an ordeal than updating the driver, and I don't want to open that can of worms again.
