Windows 7: First Custom Build....BSOD errors and flickering screen

Interesting! I used pcpartpicker to put together the machine and it didn't flag any incompatibility....but maybe it didn't include the built in PSU for the case?

The math definitely adds up. Is there a way I can confirm this without purely replacing the PSU? Run it without the GPU? Or maybe disconnect the HDD?

Does PC partpicker tell you exactly what what power supply comes with the case.
Brand name, model and all its specs. If not beware.

Yeah I imagine that's the issue, with my ignorance not to double check, that it doesn't account for built-in PSUs. I probably needed to put it in manually.

So I checked it out, and it does account for a 500w power supply, but in the breakdown it lists the GPU as a 16-65w draw.

New power supply it is. I imagine it will be a bear to find a PSU that will fit in my current case? I guess it's also gonna suck to put everything in a new case, too.

Keep this in mind.

You can't walk a dog sideways.
You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
You can't have a proper working computer without a proper power supply.

Hah. Yes, all these things are true.

Any advice for replacing the power supply? Would it be easier to get a whole new case/PSU rather than try to find a new PSU and fit it into my current case? Or - are there (typically) standard fittings and I could get lucky with a plug-and-play type thing?

Should I move these questions to a new thread?

Thanks, axe0 et al, so much for all the digging and advice!

As far as I know all after market power supplies with fit in a after market case in the Mid Tower ATX size.

Watching a short video on your Antec Sonata III 500 Quiet Super Mid Tower ATX Case it appears that you have plenty of room for a after market power supply.

The best way to be sure is pick a quality power supply and get the measurement. With that information you should be able to measure your case and know for sure if it will fit.
