Very Random Recurring BSOD
As the topic says I'm dealing with an annoying, long-term issue that has been "going on" for around a year and a half, give or take.
Basically, since I built this computer.
I guess I'll give my important specs for easy reading:
Powersupply: EVGA Supernova 1000G2 1000W
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Hero
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 770
Ram: G.SKILL TridentX F3-2400C10D-16GTX (2x8G)
So, the issue is random, low-number of BSOD while gaming. First one happened around 2 months after build while playing Smite - a rather untaxing game. Second one happened around a week later while playing GW2 - a rather taxing game.
Both BSOD were the same 0x124 WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. One pointed to L1 Cache on CPU.
I changed nothing and for the next 8-9 months - nothing. In this time, I played GW2 extensively, I played Smite extensively, I played Witcher 3 for hours and hours (over 100+ hours put into it), I played Battlefield 4.
Then, last week while playing Fallout 4 - the BSOD came back. Same thing. 3 days later while logging into GW2 just as the map loaded - BSOD'd again. Yesterday, I turned off TurboBoost just to see if it was an issue with overclocking (as that is the only overclocking going on) and I BSOD in Fallout 4.
Prior to this BSOD in Fallout 4, I had put around 30 hours into it - nothing. After it, I put around 10 hours into nothing.
This is why I call it 'random'. What causes it one time, doesn't cause it the next time. The only thing that is non-varible is gaming. But the games range from overtly taxing (Witcher 3) to not taxing at all (Smite) and not all games are causing it.
It's taken me so long to actually seek guidance in finding the issue because it was such a low-number of BSOD's (2 over 9 months) and I gamed heavily after without a problem. But it's obviously getting worse (3 over the last week).
I'll post two dump files I have.
The issue is not temperature (As far as Temps I can monitor) Temps are basically fine - CPU has never gone above 45c, and generally sits around 35c to 38c. GPU goes up to around 55c, sometimes it can hit 60-61c but it's generally (90% of the time) sub-60.
No other issues (Freezes, Hangups, etc.) with the computer.
I think it's an issue with my Memory and my CPU. I'm using the XMP profile - and I'm thinking the Voltage on the Memory (Which says 1.65 but stays at 1.68 reading) is causing the issue.
Basically, I think the Memory is too much for the CPU.
Right now I'm think of trying to elminiate it in these steps:
Updating BIOs (Was worried about it - as the system runs stable for the most part and I don't want to turn 2 BSOD in 9 months into 1 every 5 minutes, but the problem is recurring so now it's become a necessity)
Underclocking Memory
Applying small + voltage to IMC
Overclocking CPU
I'm not an overclocker at this point - so none of those options entice me - but if it's got to be done to get this thing stable, I'll have to figure it out.
Again - no overclocking other than what is being done automatically via XMP and TurboBoost.
The plan with this build was to eventually move toward overclocking - once I added on the build (Water Cooling, new GPU, etc.) and educated myself - but obviously that's out the window now.
