Everything freezes when a new window is opened

I have tried searching online for different solutions but I have yet to encounter a problem that is very similar to mine.

Basically when I boot up and log in to my account everything is swift and fine. I open my first program (normally Chrome) and then surf the web. Then once I try and open a different program or a new window with Chrome then it suddenly just freezes. It will be fine after about 10 seconds then everything starts to become choppy until windows explorer suddenly crashes and I am left with no choice but to force shut down my laptop. I then go through the same process again. As long as I stick to one window and one program then everything is smooth, until of course I try to open a new window or program then my whole system eventually crashes.

I have been using Windows 7 for about two months now and this is the first time I have encountered a problem with it. Please help me if you can as my assignments are due in this week and I need to be able to multi-task with my laptop.

    Thanks in advance!!

If you need a quick fix. Just use System Restore and go back to a point in time, prior to the problem. Once working make a system image and put it away. Any future problems, you can use system image to go back to that point in time.

Thanks richc46 for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I have no System Restore point so I can't do it.

Try this, right click on IE icon or chrome it that is what you use (hopefully chrome will have the option), then choose browse without add ons. Hope this helps.

Chrome may have another method to browse without add on options.

Edit: Try using IE, see if it works. If it does, but you do not really like it, at least you have time to find another solution.
