booted up cpu-z to check what make of ram I had. It was listing the wrong type! (It lists CM3X2G1333C9D which doesn't exist as far as I know) Somewhere along the line my mobo has had a funny turn and decided it doesn't know what ram I'm using. In the bios I've taken it off auto and set the voltage to 1.6.

It still crashes but I can move the mouse when it does now.

This is the ram I have

Should I try upping the voltage further?

EDIT: forget that, it seems even more unstable

Also check the frequency the RAM is operating on is correct as well as the timings.

The frequency is correct, so is the timing setting (it wont let me change these even if I wanted to)

It's fast dawning on me that I may have spent a lot of money on building a computer that doesn't work

This is known to fix many-a-problem and is definitely suggested if nothing else is helping. Run without adding any software at all besides mandatory drivers for a day or so. See how it goes.

Sorry I should have been more clear but I did a system wipe earlier in the thread. I'm currently running with one stick of RAM and I've contacted the company I bought it from in the hopes that they can help.

So I've underclocked my ram from 1333 to 800

everything seems stable now but what is the point of having ddr3 if it's underclocked to ddr2 speeds

Oh well, I suppose I should be glad it's stable
