CD/DVD drive does not appear in Windows Vista, or you receive this error during Windows Vista setup after booting from the DVD

Yes, you can replace the registry hives in :

\Windows\System32\config

They are these - no extensions:

Attachment 36880

Components

Default

Sam

Security

Software

System

With the hives of the same name from :

\Windows\System32\config\RegBack

Easiest way is to use the File Transfer Wizard on the free bootable Paragon Rescue Kit Express cd:

Free data recovery: Paragon Rescue Kit Express - Overview

Hope it helps

Hi rich,

That's good advice, generally of course.

He shouldn't have any trouble replacing the hives with the backup ones. It's very easy with the Paragon freebie - you can see what you are doing.

Assuming the Corrupt Registry diagnosis is correct - he will then boot in fine.

May need to get a few updates again, or reinstall an app . or two.

That looks good... But how do I get the default W7 registry settings into the program? Or are they already in there? I'm a bit unclear on how this works.

Boot the Paragon cd.

On the first Menu, select Normal Mode.

On the second Menu , select File Transfer Wizard.

Browse to Windows\System32\config\Regback , dble click it to open it

Click a Hive to highlight it and click the green left pointing arrow to transfer a copy of it to the Clipboard ( The Left Window).

When they are all in there, click Next - browse to the destination - \Windows\System32\config - dble click it to open it.

Rt click each of the Hives in config and Delete.

Then use the green rt pointing arrow to copy all the Hives from the clipboard in to config.

Close Paragon

Restart.

The hives contain the entries already.

Okay, I'm using Paragon right now, and I've selected normal mode, but it's taking forever for the second menu to appear... Is this normal?

A little while to load up - depends on your machine.

If you have a weird machine - you can select safe mode , instead of normal mode.

If you can't load Normal or Safe Mode - there may be a problem with the HD or partition Table.

Okay, I ran it in safe mode and everything seemed fine... But after replacing the registry, I rebooted it and it still wouldn't work. (As before, after the Windows loading screen had finished, it flashed blue and restarted.)
After that I ran Startup Repair to see if it worked now, but one repair later, it's still not working.

windows 7 repaired my gpu fan
I have a Point of View 9800GTX+ and this one comes with low cost about 50mm fan. Using XP, it constantly didn't start spinning at boot, causing overheating later under load. Now in 7 the problem is gone. I think it's because of drivers.
