    Attempting to Get This Repaired

So I've been working at this for about a week now, and you can read a summary of what's been going on here on CNet.

My installation DVD was at my sister's house for a while, so she had to send it by mail, and I just got it today. The guy in the CNet thread told me that there are other repair methods when you boot from the DVD, but I've been unable to find any. I've been considering a repair install, but the moment I hit the "Install Now" button, it says that "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." Given that I'm booting from the DVD, I don't see how it could possibly not recognize it.

Install from a USB key and/or make sure Plug and Play OS is set to yes in the bios.

I'm sorry, but I'm not too knowledgeable on this. How do I install with USB, and where are the bios?

    USB Key

and to get into the system's bios settings, you usually could repeatedly tap on either delete, escape or the specific key for your motherboard model, upon turning on the pc.

Computers have different ways of acessing the bios. Dell and several others, you boot. As soon as boot you repeatedly hit the f12 key. You will gain entrance to the bios. There are several sections. You make the choices that you want, save and exit. Computers other than Dell, may use escape f2 or others. Read your manual.
The USB can be an external hard drive or finger drive (flash drive.)

Well, the USB key is out, because I can't start up my computer properly, but I'll attempt the bios.

Find a way from another working computer. It will save you the most time with troubleshooting this and should work well for you.

Yeah, still a good idea to check the bios in any case.

In BIOS , try changing the Disk Controller from AHCI to ATA or IDE mode.

@SIW2: What do those do, exactly?

Also, is there a way I can restore my registry to its default mode if I have no restore points set up?
