For your problem, here are some things to check that will help.

1) Install the latest bios for your motherboard (if newer exists, from motherboard manufacturer's site.)
2) Install the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard (if newer exists, from motherboard manufacturer's site.)
3) Install the latest graphic card driver (if newer exists, from graphic card manufacturer site.)
4) Check Adobe's site for updated version of Flash.

crashes when trying to watch videos (youtube, netflix)

I am having a similar problem - netflix, youtube, and every other website with streaming video causes the window to freeze. I am forced to bring up the task manager to close the window, and repeat attempts always fail unless I restart the computer. After the computer restarts, I sometimes am able to get the streaming video to work, and sometimes I am not - more often not. I have never had this problem before upgrading to windows 7. I updated all of adobe - reader, flash player, and shockwave to try to fix the problem, but I am lost.

I have also noticed that other programs that play videos, such muvee and HP photo media smart have been crashing, which is a new happening since I have upgraded.

I would appreciate any help that can be given. I am not good with computers but will try to give you as much information as I can.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

I have had this problem of videos crashing my browser for weeks. It started in IE9, so I got Firefox, then that crashed too, so I got Chrome, and that crashed too. I also noticed that if I downloaded Flash videos, and played them locally, they crashed the viewer too. The Adobe forums lead me to believe that maybe I needed to update my video driver, so I did that; but videos still crashed whatever ran them. I noticed that sometimes my sound would stop working before the video crashed, and sometimes I heard loud clicks while the video played, and I couldn’t launch the soundcard interface; so I wondered if the sound card was the problem. Today I re-installed my sound card driver, and the problem went away! These problems are not all straightforward, Windows machines can be difficult to trouble shoot, and not a every problem has an readily apparent cause.
