Windows 7: BSOD error 0x116 atikmpag.sys during general use/gaming

BSOD error 0x116 atikmpag.sys during general use/gaming

Recently over the past 2 weeks or so, BSOD with the error 0x116 due to atikmpag.sys has been happening very frequently (almost once per startup).
BSOD related to AMD drivers have been happening once in awhile ever since I've gotten the PC (almost 2 years old) but it's happening very frequently, sometimes within minutes upon booting up and sometimes during gaming sessions.
If this helps, my monitor also blacks out within a couple minutes of booting up, and no image is displayed until I restart my monitor, which I believe is due to the display driver failing.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the most recent AMD drivers (16.1) to no avail, any help is much appreciated.
EDIT : it also appears if the BSOD does not occur within a few minutes of booting up, there will be no BSOD for the entire session until the next startup.

Hello crouze and welcome to Sevenforums! :)

I noticed that two of your BSODs were caused by files from your Norton 360 so I would recommend that you uninstall it and install MSE in its place for the time being:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Also how have you uninstalled and reinstalled the AMD drivers? You see there are a couple of ways of doing it, one way is to do it through the Windows control panel and uninstall a program, the other is to download for example Revo Uninstaller.

And that is what I would recommend for you to do, is to download and install Revo, take the Freeware version:
Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Let it delete everything from AMD, reboot and then install the new fresh drivers from AMD, actually I would recommend that you first download and save the fresh drivers to the desktop in case something happened(I have already picked your specific drivers):

Cheers! Boris :)

Thank you for the help Boris, will do as recommended and see how it goes.
However, I'm still hesitant on uninstalling Norton 360 as I may have forgotten the security code for the product.
I'll still proceed with everything else you mentioned, and once again thank you so much for the help!
