    BAD_POOL_HEADER, daily at ~3:00 EST

    Hello,

I hope that someone here may have some advice for me with a BSOD error that I am having. I would appreciate it.

I have a Dell Precision 7510 that is 3 weeks old and has been having a BSOD error since I received it.

    The BSOD is BAD_POOL_HEADER

It seems to occur daily at about 3:00 p.m., but only if I am not using the computer. That is, if I am actually sitting at my computer from, say 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., it will not crash. But if I get up and leave the room anytime near 3:00 p.m., the computer will crash. Maybe there is some automated process that gets run at that time of day?

Bluescreenview says the BSOD is related to storport.sys
WhoCrashed suggests that it is related to Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

In attempting to resolve the problem I have done the following:
    1. Exchanged the entire computer with Dell (This is the 2nd of an identical system to have the exact same problem) - This suggests it is unlikely to be a hardware problem.
    2. Updated the Bios
    3. Downloaded and installed what are supposed to be updated Intel drivers from the Dell support website. Though, as the computer is only a few weeks old, I doubt these are different than what was on it to begin with.

    The problem persists.

One factor that I wonder about is that the computer has an m.2 PCIE SSD. This seems to be a relatively new kind of hard drive, and perhaps there is some incompatibility with other aspects of the system.

Attached, is the zip file containing all the information obtained per the forum rules.

Thank you in advance for any advice,

    Mike

Please check Dell for driver updates, uninstall Avast while troubleshooting and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Axe0,

Thank you for your advice. I have done as you suggested: Uninstalled Avast and updated the drivers I found on the Dell support website.

Unfortunately, this has had no effect on the problem. The BAD_POOL_HEADER issue persists, every day, at 3:00, or, if I am actively using it at 3:00, it will crash soon after I stop.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Please search "taskschd.msc" (without quotes) and press enter, this opens the task scheduler.
Please check in the task scheduler if there is any task activate when the crash occurs.

    Thanks.

I've checked the task scheduler as you suggested. The following tasks seem to start around 3:00

IntelWiDi-Upgrade-91ba0caa-28a7-4f47-8d08-f71b4b10fbec (at 2:24 PM every day)
SystemToolsDailyTest (at 2:59 PM every day)
    ium-f1e24ca0-b63e-4f13-a9e3-4ade3bff3473 (3:08 PM every day)

The first two of the above three items say that the "the operation completed successfully" the last time they were run. The last item says "The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003)".

I disabled the last task (ium-f1e...) on Friday, but still got the BSOD error on the saturday.

I will try disabling the "SystemToolsDailyTest", which apparently is a third party program Dell installed from "PC-Doctor".

Still, since it appears that the BSOD occurs after the task completes, I am not optimistic that this will fix anything. We'll see.

    Axe0,

Thank you for your suggestion to check the task scheduler. I hadn't thought to check that, but it seems to have fixed the problem.

After disabling the "SystemToolsDailyTest", the computer has not crashed in the last week.

Let me include some more information that may be useful to anyone else experiencing this problem --

It appears that this process is part of the Dell Support Assist software that is installed with the computer, which itself comes from a company "PC-Doctor". I asked the PC-Doctor people what was going on, and they suggested it is a driver issue. Some of Dell's "Alienware" line recently had a similar bsod problem, which was linked to a need to update a driver. See here:

Alienware 17 R3 - BSOD ISSUE & FIX - Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (v 8.1.10600.147_A00) - Alienware Forum - Alienware Club - Dell Community

My computer already had all the driver updates mentioned at that link, but there must be another software issue. After contacting Dell again, they told me that the believe it is a conflict between the Support Assist software and a recent windows update and they are working on a fix. The solution in the meantime is to turn off or uninstall Support Assist.

Dell software isn't very reliable, I rarely use some but only when I need it.
It could however also be that the task itself is corrupted, but I wouldn't dig too deep into this and let Dell handle it :)
