    Random BSOD on clean install

I just built a new machine for me to use at work. After I installed windows 7 I got some random crashes (nothing but windows updates and McAfee installed). I thought it may have been video drivers and installed some the Nvida site. This did not help, I then ran the windows memory test overnight and had no errors. When the crashes occured, a few of them had no applications running.

I can't seem to get the dumpchk to work correctly, but from what I can see it always has ntoskrnl.exe as the likelyl cause.

attached are the dumps of all crashes I have gotten to date so far. The only other software that is installed is Solidworks. (After the new video driver was installed I though my problem was fixed). I have no problems with reinstalling windows if need be.

    hi and welcome

The good news is that four of the dumps said the same thing. The likely cause for them was memory corruption. I would do the following

First download and install memtestx86 for hours (preferably overnight) It is a lot more efficient at stressing memory

Next I would run a system file check to verity and fix system files
to run sfc tyoe cmd in search>right click and run as admin>
    SFC /SCANNOW

Let us know the results of both.

Next if yoou are overclocking STOP

Update the critical driver (BIOS, video, raid, network)

    Hope this helps

Completely uninstalling McAfee will stop the bsod.

    "Probably caused by : mfehidk.sys"

Memory corruption, as far as I've seen, usually doesn't mean bad RAM (but could! - quite possibly more than one problem here but I don't get that feeling.) Memory corruption happens from antivirus/firewall software mostly.

The machine in question is now running memtest86 4.00.

I will let that run for at least 24 hrs before doing anything else.

I will post the result tomorrow.

Thanks for the help thus far!

I did see your post, But the machine also had a BSOD once before anything was installed on it. All it had was windows 7 ultimate with no updates (I was not on the network yet as I had no virus protection installed). I installed McAfee so I could get on the network and do any needed windows 7 updates and install the correct drivers for my video card.

If the memory test comes back clean I will try the disk fix and driver updates if those shows no results I will wipe the disk and reinstall windows.

And to an earlier comment, the machine is not overclocked.

The bsod are from the McAfee and/or other drivers. The memory modules are almost guaranteed to be fine since brand new. (Anything is always possible, though.) Definitely McAfee as a part of it.

Whatever these are (Macrovision? grr), are also the cause. Remove or update:

Quick update, Memtest has been running over night and made 10 passes so far with no errors. I will look for drivers to up date and unistall McAfee.

Might be a day or 2 as some equipment broke that I need to deal with before I can get back to the PC.

I tried running SFC from the CMD window, I got the error message:

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

    I ran CMD as administrator.

In the meantime I will pull the machine from the network and uninstall McAfee to see if that prevents a BSOD

I have macafee installed, however I cannot get to the desktop in either regular or safemode. How can I uninstall this software without accessing the desktop?

btw, the Acer 1410 does not have a dvd-drive.
