Computer doesn't shut down.

Hi guys,

I've just noticed a strange issue this morning about my computer. Well, usually I never shut down my comp. only restart it or I shut down when I have to clean the case. Then when I decided to shut it down, there were like something going off on the case but the PSU was still running. I remember at first, I didn't have this issue.

Currently running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bits.

Comp. specs:

EP43-UD3L
E5200 2.5ghz @ 3.3
Antec 200
OCZ Dual channel PC2 8500- 5-6-6-18
ATI Sapphire 4670 GDDR3.
WD Black Caviar 500GB.

The issue was the computer doesn't shut down completely as there were something running in the case still. Some updates, a few minutes after writing this, I tried a shut down with the power button. Right after, at the reboot everything went back at basic ( CPU, RAMS) then it gave me an error about a driver not properly installed. I had to do a windows repair which fixed the issue and let me log into windows. Right now, the computer does shut down completely, I'm wondering if it was because of the overclock that gave me this problem.

As stated above, went to 3.3ghz from 2.5ghz.

Stock fan and voltage btw.

I ran prime95 but for like 5-6h

FIX FOR COMPUTER NOT POWERING DOWN AFTER SHUTDOWN WINDOWS 7!

Try this before you do ANYTHING ELSE.

If your motherboard has a firewire port, you will need to check in device manager if it is set to allow the computer to switch off the device. You can do this by going to properties of the devices under IEEE1394 Bus host controller and going to power management. After that, make sure the "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" is ticked.

Step by step for noobs:

"Windows Start Button" >> Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Device Manager >> IEEE1394 Bus host controller (expand) >> double click "VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" (this could be different on your machine, not sure) >> Click on "Power Management" tab >> Check the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" >> click "OK".

Now your computer will shut down normally :)

I followed your "noob" instructions but when I get to Device Manager, I do not see IEEE1394 Bus host controller anywhere. I expanded everything that was in Device Manager and I still didn't see it. What now?
