    Error Booting on AC vs. Battery


    Hi Guys,

    So today i installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit on my HP 8530p. Everything worked fine, all drivers installed. I took the laptop to stand another place, since i was done installing it - gave it a reboot without the power supply, and then it hanged on the Win7 Logo boot screen(forever) - i gave it a reinstall, did the same.

    So my trouble actually is, it'll boot with powersupply with no problem at all, but when i pull out the AC, it's stuck on the windows logo boot screen...

    What could this problem be?

    Philip Hi and welcome

    many things can cause this problem but it is usuallypower configuration. check what settings differ between AC and battery in power options control panel

    Hi Ken,

    I've now changed the windows based battery settings to the same as the power settings.. doesn't help at all... ;(

    Could this have anything to to with the bios or CMOS battery? - the machine is brand new though..

    I should though say, that i updated the bios from a 08 version to late september 09 version today before i found the problem, so i cant actually say if it's the bios update...

    Cant seem to find any previous version of the bios now though. Unfortunately..

    EDIT:
    I managed to recover the original bios build, and this wasn't the problem.

    See if you can go to a large computer store where they have a similar or same model with exactly the same battery. Or better, to where you bought it if possible.

    They could let you test it in your machine to see if your battery is the problem. It could be.

    Thanks for your reply, though that would be a bit funny since i've been running vista ultimate 64-bit for 8 months before the 7-install :/

    Oh, alright. Then see if there are any chipset and other drivers newer than what you're currently using. Check the manufacturer's site.

    Hi again,

    The problem was fixed by a hotfix hp uploaded to their 7 driverpage today. The new chipset driver fixes this problem.

If I try to start my laptop using battery power I get nothing but a black screen after the Win7 logo shows up. If I'm plugged in my laptop boots up and loads windows just fine. I'd appreciate any help I can get with this.
