Random reboots only in Windows, not while in Ubuntu.

Been struggling with this one for a couple weeks now. The machine randomly reboots when running windows 7 or 10. All the event log seems to mention is possible power loss.

I've tried different power supply, video card, surge protector, house plug, different operating systems. The fact that it doesn't seem to reboot while running Ubuntu obviously leads me to believe it's a software issue.

I've included a DM log collector file.

Please update Windows as a first step, in this step it does not matter if you installed different OS, more important is that we can get proper results from analyzing the logs that are affected by updates.

Thanks for the response. I'll try to get the updates installed this weekend.

It was fully updated before I installed Ubuntu, and was still randomly rebooting then, but it seems like it's doing it more now.

But yeah, I'll try to get it updated this weekend and see what we find after that.

I ended up getting the updates done and the crashing slowed a bit. After the updates some blue screen messages came up, with an IRQ error which I hadn't seen before. Seemed like a memory issue, so I popped a stick of memory out and haven't had an issue since.

Early on when this was happening, I memtested each stick of memory separately, and together with no issues. So maybe just a timing or compatibility issue.

Anyway it seems like it's going now. Thanks for taking the time to answer and offer help.

When you tested your system earlier it had a lot of updates missing, that caused test results to be different.

No it i didn't. Memtest is booted from DOS using bootable media, so Windows and it's updates aren't a factor.

I assumed it was the built-in memory test you meant as you did not specify which you meant :)

Yeah and I'm sure both sticks of memory are fine. The older one had been running in my main machine for years with no issues, and the new one has been running alone in the previously rebooting machine for almost a week with no issue. Must be a compatibility issue. Probably different timings.

I've mixed ram many times before and never had a gremlin problem like this. Lesson learned :)

Please note this, even if the added memory is of the same make & model it'll be mixed memory, there will always be a difference with current memory and added memory that may cause problems.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear your problem is solved :)
