Windows 7 only working in safe mode

    Hi,

I downloaded Windows 7 64 bit home professional last night through the student deal. The program installed well, and was activated through the product key I received. However, when the actual desktop started up it immediatly said Windows Explorer stopped working. I tried to restart but it didn't work and kept restarting the program over and over, which kept refreshing the desktop. I also couldn't get on the internet so I couldn't submit the problem online.

Everything works in safe mode, but nothing works in normal mode.

Does anyone know what the issue may be?

    Thanks!

    Hey.

You can boot to safe mode + networking for internet access.

But what you really want to do is go into the bios and look at a setting called "Plug and Play OS."

If you have that (and I'm guessing you have an Asus motherboard) - set it to yes and reboot to Windows normal mode.

Let us know if you've found that and it helped.

    Good luck.

Login only works in safemode suddenly

I have Win7 Ultimate 64bit running on my HP pavilion laptop. I shutdown my pc for a short while and when I returned I logged into my computer with no issue but then after excepting my password the login screen would display the welcome message but never complete, just hang there. After numerous attempts with the same results I tried safe mode and was able to login to all three versions with no issues. After going through numerous steps including going into msconfig; I ran a list of commands to fix boot sector along with many other things while I was venturing in the command line side of safe mode. Finally I tried to uninstall programs I never use and rid myself of useless startup services. NOTHING....

After that I was done with everyone else and the hours of wasted time. I decided to venture on my own since nothing was working and it seemed that no one had any ideas left. After uninstalling another random program I decided to try one more thing before yet another reboot attempt.I checked installed updates. It was the flipping Windows Security Updates. So secure that no one can log in LOL. I updated yesterday which was the 11th if it helps anyone. I don't know which update it was other than one of the 11 security updates. I have had enough expirience with all the other Windows products breaking stuff after updating what I thought were "Secure Updates".

So Yea I never post in forums but I felt after spending so much time on this why not. Hopefully it will keep someone else from wasting hours for a 5 minute fix.
