Ok so I tried to find something about that error that I got on ubuntu when I tried to acces the OS drive. I found out that this command sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda2 can potentially fix the problem. So I ran it in the terminal And got this message https://i.imgur.com/S4ZpSgm.jpg. The problem is now that I dont even see the OS partition anymore... It used to be here https://i.imgur.com/zGjf6Rn.jpg. I dont know what to do anymore...
Ok this worries me now, Ive just booted the partition wizzard to check if something changed and I can no longer find my files in the OS partition, on top of that it no longer says its OS partition but NTFS partition instead, heres a pic https://i.imgur.com/PWNWtcZ.jpg. When I explore that partition it seems empty even though it says theres 149 GB of files there.. heres a pic again https://i.imgur.com/uX9JYA8.jpg

Hmm my mistake then mate I thought it was the optical drive - which is then not listed?? anywhere?

Personally I avoid using sticks preferring CD's or DVD's I find them more reliable.

Again without having to troll back through has there been a test on the drive? In the PW there is a feature called surface test which might be worth a run and while you have the Ubuntu up I am wondering if it would download Seatools SeaTools for Windows | Seagate there is also one for us in DOS though I have never tried that myself - just use the Firefox to find it. If you can't it could be done using another machine as long as you pick the right drive when using the other machine.

Well mate I think it is about time we ran a test on that drive because we seem to be getting nowhere fast.
I am sure you have mentioned the age of the device but just to remind me just what is it and how old.

The images you sent are telling me it maybe either very corrupted by something or just dying.

Use either of the methods I mentioned as the PW one will actually check the physical surface and to soem extent the read/write heads if it is a spinner.

the machine is about 4y old so that hdd might be dying out, gonna run the PW check now and post pics after

edit: ok so Ive run the surface test on PW and I am not sure how is the process supposed to look like but this was what happened when I started the test https://i.imgur.com/zI34fo3.jpg

John, the chkdsk log keeps the same.
Chkdsk cannot do anything because the Windows partition does not have enough space to save any changes, the current goal is using Ubuntu or another bootable OS to move data from the Windows partition to the DATA partition.

Ok Martijn and to be honest I was expecting that surface scan to come out looking like that it's usually more O a graphical type pic. Having said that it is mentioning a few failed entries and I would be trying to run the test perhaps with the drive hooked up to another machine and run PW as normal.

I don't know what to make of it any more because it seems to be a in a right pickle.

I was probably going to upgrade to SDD in the near future anyway so lets say the HDD is indeed trashed, is there a way to get my files out so I can buy a new drive and do a clean instal of win7?

You could get a HDD caddy, a HDD caddy would need to be inserted in the CD player usually.
Then you should be able to easily recover your data without problems :)
