Unrelenting BSOD calms after A/C's are on ... ?
Hi,
For the last month or so whenever I boot up the pc I have to do it 2 more times before it'll behave. It either reboots by itself, I am frozen or I get a BSOD. For another month prior to the problem above I'd randomly reboot or get a BSOD while online or just sitting at my desktop.
I did a HD test and that came out fine. I have 3 fans in my pc (counting video card) and all are working. I have had my air conditioner's on for 4 days straight now and in this time .... no problems at all with my pc. Now I'm thinking it's a heating issue???? I don't usually get my pc serviced. I clean it out usually once a month. I can replace my own parts, have my windows disk to reformat if needed, and I use forums to help me with issues. However, the last time I did, several years ago, the guy told me that I could use a larger tower. So maybe it is a heating issue?
I want to stress that I am not very computer knowledgeable so when explaining things to me, please use layman's terms.
I am attaching that zip file that was asked of me.
Thank you :)

Hello and welcome.
I would suggest the first thing to eliminate is that the Heat sink compound needs replacing.
This means that there is a compound between where the heat sink meets or joins with the CPU and this compound over time dries out and stops transferring heat from the CPU to the heat sink.
If you have a look on YouTube it is easy to do.
The first thing you will need to do is acquire some compound, a few dollars at the local PC shop.
You could load Speccy first and watch and advise us of running temperatures.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for helping. I downloaded Speccy. CPU temp - 55 C, Motherboard - 57 C, Graphics - 41 C
I just got on so I'll go about my business and watch those temps. I'll let you know if there was a change. This thread says I'm subscribed to it, but I didn't get an email saying their was a reply. Am I missing something? I'll check back later. Thank you!

I was just thinking about the prior post about letting you know if the temps change. That doesn't matter since I have problems booting up after being off the pc for hours. Maybe the a/cs should be off?

Please visit Windows Update and install every update available, it may take a couple of times to get them all.
Code:
Hotfix(s): 21 Hotfix(s) Installed.

2nd problem!! My pc has been checking for updates for about 90 mins if not more.
The other night I checked for updates but after about 20 mins I just cancelled it.
... ok so I love this site becuz I got a BSOD while typing the above, but when Firefox brought this page back .. my message was sitting here as I left it. Awesome! Well it took 3 times to get back on. I got the blue screen. I started up in safe mode. I restarted after seeing if I could check for updates via safe mode - not that I could see. Then while restarting I got a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top of the screen toward the left.

The "Update Standalone Installer", how long should that take because it's been searching for about 5 minutes now.

I needed to reboot, I think. That's why it scanned forever. I got this message "this update is not applicable to your computer"

For which update did you get the message?
