    Applications Crashing with Win7

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop and just yesterday updated to Windows 7 from Vista. I had no problems at all with Vista.

With Windows 7 now installed, I am experiencing crashes on some applications, such as notepad and photoshop. Notepad crashed when I tried to print a file, and PS crashes shortly after opening a new image.

    I appreciate any advice!

    Here are the error messages:

    Hi and welcome

I asume you have the 1525 like me. We could use some info. did you clean install?

can you get the the event ID and source codes for the errors? I suspect it DEP. dep or data execution protection is used to prevent apps from launching in restricted memory. It is in the system contro panel>properties>advance>preformance, and default is set to MS apps only.

Check what it is set to and let us know

    Hope this helps

I upgraded from Vista rather than a fresh install.

I turned off DEP for Phooshop and still get crashes.

I downloaded the debugging tool in the Sticky at the top and got stuck on this line>

"2) Open a CMD prompt and CD to the folder where you installed the debugging tools."

I am not too familiar with command prompts, I can get to the command prompt screen just fine but did not understand this part > "CD to the folder where you installed the debugging tools'.

Should I give up and just do a clean install?

If so, how would I go about doing it since I already have Windows 7 installed?

    Thanks for helping!

You could post the .dmp file(s) after you .rar them or .zip

Attach to a post using the paperclip above where you type.

If you want to just clean install, boot to the DVD and install Windows right where it is now without formatting. It will put everything there now in Windows.old folder and you can check it for stuff you want to keep when you get to desktop.
