Before I attempt to undertake what seems a mammoth task, (Not even sure I understand what to do !!)
Please see attached pic (I tried to restore to earlier point and this came up:
There are various reasons why a system restore point is not working,
- AV program interference,
- File system corruption,
- Hard drive corruption,
- Program interference,
- etc.
axe0,
Is there anything else I can try?
To be honest I don't feel very confident or even able to do all the things you mentioned !!
Apologies.
No problem, glad you mention it :)
Let's do everything step by step starting with uninstalling Avira.
- Click on: Start → Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
- Search the Avira product, click with the right mouse button on it and select Uninstall.
- Confirm the following product uninstall notification with Yes.
- Confirm the activation of the Windows Firewall with Yes.
- The Avira Setup will take some minutes to uninstall the product.
- Confirm the notification to restart your system with Yes.
- After the reboot of your PC the Avira product is completely removed.
From How do I uninstall my Avira Antivirus product?
axe0,
Might that lead to problems if I have no AV?
No, because that is 50% of the first thing, the other 50% is installing Microsoft Security Essentials :)
