    Recurring BSOD, USB-releated?, STOP: 0x000000FE


    I have been getting this Blue Screen error intermittently for months now. It only happens during Windows shut down. I've attached the two most recent Minidumps. It seems more likely to occur after I have used the USB (2.0) ports on the machine. But the latest BSOD (last night) happened without having plugged/un-plugged anything since the previous shut down.



    Not long before the first occurrence of this I had installed a USB-3 PCI-card (Rosewill RC-505 R).
    I removed the card (not sure if I even "disabled" in Device Manger or "uninstalled"), but the error persisted. Here's a current screenshot of Device Manager.



    The card is currently still in the machine, and Windows' programs list still shows a "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver" installed.

    What additional info should I provide?

    Texmax mate not sure re the BSOD dump files but one thing sticks out to me in msinfo32 - problem devices and from that pic of the blue screen is there is no driver for the USB ports. see pic

    At least I would update the chipset driver - sorry but at this time the Asus site for it is down for me to refer you to so try your end.

    Thank you, ICIT2LOL, Asus' site is still down on my end as well. Will check again tomorrow.

    The "Problem Device" you pointed out as not having drivers installed has a PNP Device ID that starts with "PCI\...". Does this mean it pertains to my USB 3.0 PCI card? Or are the on-board USB ports also routed through the PCI bus?

    Not sure Max could be just that anyway it does no harm to update drivers the only thing is - is to be careful when the drivers are marked a beta of course.

    The Asus site has got really crappy now over the last few years as I have been using Asus components for my own builds and prebuilt machines now and it was mentioned only just the other day in another thread they have become quite apathetic in so called support. Seems once they have your hard earned dollar you are on your own. What annoys me too is the software that comes with their products is more likely than not to be well out of date by the time we get it hence us having to chase down their support sites some which in my part of the world are usually based in some country where they have a job understanding English.

    Chipset driver was up-to-date (Version 9.1.1.1014 from 2009/07/17).
    I'm really curious now why System Information shows the USB controller as "The drivers for this device are not installed".
    The ports all work.
    Ideas?

    Does the minidump file(s) give any clues as to what's causing the crashes specifically?
