Yep well I never throw anything away myself and keep stuff like that for spares as you know once you throw things away you can bet your sweet life you will need them. Plus I live in a rural area so access to parts like that is nearly always by mail and you know how slow that can be.

Now again if were me if I were doing that and all the slots tested out ok would go for a 4x4GB setup simply because it increases the number of "channels" that the CPU can access for data to the RAM and back. But the choice is yours of course - just speaking out loud here

Well, I scanned the new mem cards separately in different slots, and again with both installed. Took way longer with both installed, was 20 hours just to reach 7 passes, but no errors detected either time.

I'm really hoping this has solved the issue, but the old cards only had errors the one time, so who knows.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I get the BSOD again within the next week or so.....but fingers crossed.

Well this is just great, now I think my hard drive is starting to die. It has made some noise when I first start the computer, that usually stops after a few minutes, basically ever since I bought it. Now it is doing it almost none stop....it sounds like I can hear the disc spinning inside the drive. Sometimes I can get it to quit if I smack the front of my computer tower, but it usually starts back up again.... it doesn't appear to be effecting the operation of the computer though.

Edit: Just got the same BSOD again waking up the computer. It seems to me that its not a memory issue. I don't know what the hell else to do now.

So please go ahead and update the driver for your card
    Drivers | GeForce

The drive you say it is making a noise? is that just a whirring sound or is it making any loud clicking noises as well?

It might be a good idea to back up any data you have on that drive in case it is going south.

When you have done that I would disconnect all drives if there are any plus any externals except the OS (C:) drive and run this
Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support at a pinch you could possibly use this

SeaTools | Seagate the Seatools for Windows but the WD test try it first.

believe me, I perform a clean installation every time it notifies me that there is a new driver. I installed the latest after this most recent crash, but it only came out a couple days ago so I wasn't really far behind. And no matter how many times I've updated, the crash keeps happening....
Is there a program that does a better job of wiping NVidia drivers then the driver install program that I could use and then reinstall from scratch?

The hard drive makes a whirring sound, but its been getting louder than usual, and while I wouldn't say it "clicks" exactly, its not a clear whirring sound, its got a kind of clicky quality, if that makes sense?

I will check out the WD and Seatools tests tomorrow.

    Thanks.

Well I do not know of any dedicated driver uninstallers so there is this
How to Uninstall Drivers in Windows | PCWorld although I would prefer to use Revo as it will remove registry entries for the software Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Plus what I do at times is to remove the entries from the registry but if you are not comfortable with doing it that way then best stick to the above. If you are ok with that then it just means checking out the HKEY's LOCAL_MACHINE & CURRENT_USER > Software > then scroll down each listing and look for the software entry.
When you find the right one you will need to right click on it and choose delete. It will clear the registry of that software. You will of course need to run regedit as admin and you MUST back up the registry BEFORE you do anything in there > Registry - Backup and Restore

it is most important that you do this in case you accidentally delete something you need or want to restore the registry as it was.

If you have any doubts about doing this then don't try it.

Okay used DDU and then reinstalled latest Nvidia drivers, so far so good, but haven't been on the computer much. Fingers crossed.

Not sure which WD tool you wanted me to use, so I downloaded and ran the Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. All it said is that my hard drive passed.

Ok Terrek it remains to be seen eh? The WD test I am not real sure of but seeing this How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows | WD Support it looks like the right one.
