    BSOD on win32k.sys, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I've had three BSODs in the past 2 months, the most recent one on win32k.sys. The message was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. When it happened I had several programs open, but was not doing anything particularly strenuous at the time. I am running Windows on VMWare Fusion 7.1.3. I am uploading the required zip file for threads of this nature.

Hello and welcome dmodersk now the first thing is to follow this please
Now before we can help we do need to know what is in your machine so please do this System Info - See Your System Specs
or either enter the specs of your system in your forum profile the specs will appear when we click on that little box bottom left of the post screen it is for me the preferable option as it is easy. As you may appreciate it is very hard when you don’t know what one is working with for example a diesel or petrol engine.

The bugcheck below is probably a hardware related issue

    Code:
    BUGCHECK_STR: 0x50
Now have you changed any hardware recently or at least around he time you started getting the blue screens?

In any case it is worth a run of these scans if you have not already
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f switch and if this does not make any improvement then just run this switch instead /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

    NB those specs please anyway.

Thanks ICIT2LOL. When you mentioned it possibly being a hardware issue I remembered that I have had issues with the VMWare tools service not running on the VM in question. I had reinstalled VMWare tools on top of itself a couple weeks ago, but when I checked again this afternoon the service was down again. Now this time I completely uninstalled VMWare tools and reinstalled. I'll keep an eye on the service and see if it stays up and if I stop getting BSODs.

Also, I filled in my specs on the forum and tried sfc /scannow. It didn't find anything. I'm going to try chkdsk shortly.

If I get another blue screen I'll update this thread.

Ok that is good and thanks for the specs it is so much easier to advise when we can see those.

Now if the blue screens do happen again and if there is a definite hardware problem then they probably will then just follow these.

Does DM Log Collector work with a kernel dump? I would like to provide more information to the forum's analysts if possible should I get another BSOD.

Hmm not sure my friend and the dumps that are collected by those two tutorials are usually more than enough as the msinfo32 and sysinfo information etc is also collected.

You might try this though SF Diagnostic Tool - Using for Troubleshooting

Because of the size of a kernel dump (>100MB) it won't work, you need to upload a kernel dump to a 3rd party uploader (onedrive, google drive, dropbox, etc) and post a share link if you want to provide a kernel dump.

Thanks for all the information. I was not aware of either tool when I started this thread.

So far I have not had another BSOD. Check disk didn't find anything, but after running it Windows boot duration was extremely slow. I have had ongoing issues with slow boots for a about a year, but it was never as slow as this morning. However, after rebooting several times Windows is now booting faster than it has in a very long time, probably faster than when I first got the image.

VMWare tools has stayed running on the image as well.

I'll mark this thread as solved and if some reason BSOD comes back I'll "unsolve" it.

Ok mate post back if the problem start again.

Now as for the slow boot there are some tweaks in this Optimize Windows 7 that may help - I use it on all my machines and ones I fix for family and friends, and neihghbours. You may lose a bit of the "bling" eg transparency but I think that is an unnecessary feature anyway and the tweaks can be reversed if you so wish. In particular see Point #9

If you haven't got this CCleaner - Free Download or try CCleaner Professional - Piriform then you should try it and to prevent deleting dump files (just in case) uncheck dump files from the start screen in the program see pic

Plus if you run the Disk Cleanup in Point #21 in the tutorial it will delete dump files too so back off that one we put this one to bed - just in case you get another BSOD.
