Random BSoD's. Clean Windows Install. 0x124. BSV says ntoskrnl.exe

    Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing better than me. This might turn into somewhat of a lengthy post, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I've been having a problem with this build for a couple weeks now. System specs are as follows:

    • MoBo: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition BIOS 0801
    • CPU: Core i7 4930K
    • RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 64GB (8x8GB) 2400MHz C11 DDR3
    • SSD: Samsung 750 EVO 120GB
    • HDD: Western Digital 3TB Purple
    • GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GeForce GTX-970
    • PSU: Rosewill ARC-750
    • Case: GamerStorm Liquid Cooled Tower

Alright, I guess I should start with the beginning. This hardware setup was installed in another case and had Win10 Pro x64 installed. There were 6 internal SSD's/HDD's, including this 750 EVO, a 120 GB 850 EVO, and a 500GB 840 EVO. The 750 was only handling non-Windows software and the OS was installed on the 850. about 3 or 4 weeks ago, I began having BSOD's which led me to do a few restores from System Images to get me back up and running. I am a political activist and I do a lot of video streaming/broadcasting. I've been cursing Win10 since I "upgraded" and had been looking for an excuse to go back to 7. At the same time, the original PC was also handling a GeoVision 16 channel security camera PCI card. I decided I was going to upgrade my primary machine and build a secondary machine with the leftover hardware. I picked up this PSU and case and threw this machine together. I've been having problems ever since!

My problems seem to begin after I install the ASUS bundled drivers. I have written roughly 1.2TB of data to this SSD trying to wipe the OS and reinstall it to no avail. I've tried the drivers on the ASUS site, as well as the older ones included on the disk that came with the MoBo. I am installing Windows from USB and am using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Creation Tool. At this point, I have Windows fully updated, and all ASUS, Gigabyte, Samsung, and NVIDIA drivers installed.

I can either be at the PC doing random tasks, or afk, and it will crash. I disabled the automatic restart so I can actually catch the stop codes. I ran the mini dump files through BlueScreenView and they all point towards the ntoskrnl.exe or the NT OS Kernel causing the issue. From my understanding, this is a major Windows kernel and the only way to correct it is by reinstalling the OS. I've already done that more than 15 times and I don't see it being a fix!

I've completed OCCT, Prime95, and MemTest86 tests, all with no errors, for at least 2 hours each, to help rule out a hardware or temperature related problem. Under full load, no single monitored component exceeds 55°C. All BIOS settings are default. I have attached the zip of all the debug data. Any and all assistance you can provide me in getting this machine stable would be GREATLY appreciated.

Also, I would like to note that I was getting so upset with the instability, I made a solid attempt at doing a dual boot Win7/Ubuntu setup, but was also running into trouble with the Ubuntu installer on the same clean SSD.

The first thing that will be needed by our BSOD Team is a proper legal activated Windows 7.

    Your install is counterfeit.

    Your logs show this.

    00426-OEM-8992662-00173
Original Install Date: 4/6/2017, 9:53:06 AM
System Boot Time: 4/8/2017, 7:23:09 AM
    System Manufacturer: System manufacturer
    System Model: System Product Name
    That code is for this.

    in 7,Ultimate,Asus,XXXXX-OEM-8992662-00173

Which is for a Asus compute made by Asus and shipped by Asus.

You have a after market motherboard that code should not be used on.

MoBo: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition BIOS 0801
How did you come by the 00426-OEM-8992662-00173

    Hello Jack,

Thank you for replying. I'm sorry. I completely forgot to add that. I have an ASUS laptop that came loaded with Windows 7. I used the product key from that machine, being it now has a legit copy of Win10 Pro. I purchased 4 Windows 10 keys for my PC's through Izzi Software a while ago for $50 each! I hope this isn't an issue.

You can't legally do that, the key is a non-transferable key that can only be used on 1 system. Using a non-transferable on a different system than meant makes the installation counterfeit.

You've got to be kidding me! I could see this being an issue if I was trying to sell the keys or something of that nature, but these are my own machines! I'm not sure if you caught it, but I put Win7 on this machine after I began having problems with Win10. It's always been my understanding that Windows distributions become the property of those who legally possess valid keys. You're really going to break b**** over which machine I have which copy on? Not for nothing, but I've been doing my homework and understand these 0x124 codes are very difficult to accurately diagnose. In fact, most posts about BSoD's pertaining to 0x124's on this site are still unresolved. If it's out of your realm, it would be much more polite to just admit that, than tell me I need to purchase yet ANOTHER license key before I can begin to get the slightest bit of assistance. There is obviously a hardware malfunction or driver conflict, being it's affecting Win7, Win10, AND Ubuntu installs. But thanks anyway. Perhaps ASUS or Gigabyte will be more inclined to help me sort this out.

One doesn't buy Windows 7. One pays for the key to use Windows 7. The only owner of Windows 7 or any other windows operating system is Microsoft.
That key was sold with a user agreement that it was only good for the computer it was activated on the first time.
It cannot be move to another computer legally.

I'm not sure who the 'Izzi Software' are but I would stay away from them. Just my recommendations.
You can not buy a legal Windows 7 COA key by itself.

As far as Izzi is concerned, I have no questions in regards to the authenticity of the software they sell. Really, it's not even up for question in this thread at this point. I know my Win10 keys are genuine. Also, I never said I only purchased the keys. It's quite obvious the keys are useless without the software. Microsoft began downloadable distributions several years ago. As long as one possesses a legitimate license key, Microsoft authorizes the download. With Windows 10 and the Windows Media Creation Tool, a valid key isn't even required until the install, and even at that, Microsoft gives users 30 days to try their product before requiring the user to purchase a key.

Would you prefer for me to remove the key that's currently installed and put Windows 7 back in Trial Mode? I'm quite sure you can see in the Kernel Dump files that the OS has only been installed for a few days, which is still well within the trial period.

What I would suggest you do is use a legal COA key and install Windows 7 using it.

That it. I really don't care to argue about it.

To verify my thoughts you could run this little tutorial on the questionable install and post the log here.

I will look at it and have another also look. Just to make sure.

This is what a legal Windows 10 sells for.

Is that because of the support provided, or because the OP just didn't come back?
The first few months after I came to this site I personally wondered if it was because the support I provided wasn't just good enough. Later I realized, and this has been confirmed by many who I've helped, they either forget about the thread whilst searching for solutions or they just leave after their issue is resolved leaving the thread be for what it is (looking unresolved).

If it's out of your realm, it would be much more polite to just admit that
Now you mention it, there has been 1 case that was out of my realm in the years I've helped troubleshooting, which was in the first couple of months.
I did let the user know I had no other ideas, he/she thanked me and simply moved on searching for help/solutions. Now I regret that I didn't start learning BSOD debugging years earlier so I may could've gotten more ideas to help the user.

Everyone of the team is perfectly capable of troubleshooting BSODs, I've personally successfully troubleshooted tons of 0x124 crashes, we may have different thoughts and approaches but we tackle BSODs with success.

Now that I've said that, and the license issue is also mentioned, I'll get to something you probably already figured: we don't provide help until the OS is properly activated.
