ATIKMPAG.SYS BSOD and TDR failures at seemingly random times.

    Hi,

I've had this AMD R9 390x for around half a year now and ever since I've got it I've been getting BSODs randomly while doing random tasks. It can be watching a video on the web, opening a program, playing a game. The screen will freeze, go black and half of the time blue screen but the other half of the time I get a notification from the task bar saying something along the lines of 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered'. I've come to learn that this is a TDR Failure and searching around the web I see a lot of people have the same issue and it seems to have something to do with atikmpag.sys and atikmdag.sys. I've only had atikmpag.sys pop up in my errors so far and have tried every fix I've come across to no avail.

I have followed the main 'fix' in this Graphics driver stopped responding and has reco... | Community.
I have reinstalled the drivers on multiple occasions.
I have moved the .sy_ file onto desktop, expanded with cmd and replaced the driver with the new one.

But still nothing. I'm hoping someone can point out why my issue is any different from the others who've posted online.

    Thanks

Also another thing to note is if the system does recover from the freezing/blackscreen without bluescreening, it seems to run smoothly with no further hiccups until it is restarted. This may just be me not noticing when the last one occurred however.

Done. Not sure if relevant but I've had the system for around 8 years now (store bought) and each part has been changed so I now have none of the originals. A year or so ago a windows update caused windows to think it wasn't genuine and I had no idea how to fix or revert it so had a friend take a look at it who fixed it by running a program but said I might need to do it again if it thinks it's not genuine again.

It came up with 0 errors.
Also downloaded and ran memtestCL and it came up with errors on random blocks but looking around other amd users are saying it might be a bug with the test itself

    The installation is counterfeit.

You have a Asus aftermarket motherboard.
Once you change the motherboard, Microsoft considers it a new computer.

A new computer can not legally have a OEM/SLP COA key.

    From your posted log.

    4) No piracy or discussion of piracy allowed at all. Such as software, music, videos and other intellectual property violations (e.g. downloading youtube videos locally etc).
You will need a legal installation of Windows 7 and other program so we can help you.
Using your friends crack program will not be good enough.
A new log will have to be posted again and it will show the crack.

You will need to buy Windows 7 with the proper matching COA key.
One must be careful, because their are a lot of crooks selling counterfeits.

Ah thanks so I need to get a new windows key. This can't be the cause of the issue in question though, right? As I didn't have any problems before I got the card and there was a long period of time between windows saying I wasn't genuine and the issue began (When I initially got the card).

Just read it, yeah. Buying a copy right now but where do I go about activating it? When I type 'activate windows' it comes up saying 'Activation was successful' and doesn't show anywhere to enter a new key?

Have you done a clean install of Windows 7? I don't think so because of the short time between post.

Just buy Windows 7 and do a Clean Install and then use the COA key that came with your Windows DVD and activate it.

Hey man, yeah actually doing one right now. Will report back to see if a clean install actually fixes the problem. Thanks for pointing the counter fit thing out by the way. I wasn't aware my original key wouldn't be viable anymore :)

Okay, thought I posted a reply but looking back seems I didn't hit post.

Havn't had time to test the system properly since the clean install to see if it's helped at all.
