    Random BSOD involving ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x70400)

I've been having a history of BSOD crashes to restarts of my pc. Upon restart system wants to run chkdsk for F:/ (non system drive). I allowed it to run several times with no errors reported and still get crashes.

I can't really localize it to software or hardware. Who Crashed seems to indicate more possibility of a software error.

    System Information (local)
    computer name: DAD-PC
windows version: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 6.1, build: 7601
    windows dir: C:\Windows
    CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor AMD586, level: 16
4 logical processors, active mask: 15
    RAM: 8588091392 total
    VM: 2147352576, free: 1881202688

    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\052417-92102-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x70400)
    Bugcheck code: 0x1A (0x411, 0xFFFFF6800010E0A0, 0xC001FAD2, 0xFFFFF8A00974DB39)
    Error: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This indicates that a severe memory management error occurred.
This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.

    Diagnostic Test

     RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Forums

       Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

    Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

    Method 2: with a cd
step 3: I don't have Windows Disc Image Burner as an option when I select "open with"
I have CDburner xp and winCD emu mounter as the only 2 choices. Would either of these work?

I don't have any blank usb drives around.

As long as the USB is bootable and has some free space left you can install it, a USB doesn't have to be wiped for the test :)

Thanks guys. I used CD burner and started the memory test. 10 hours later and it's only through 5 passes. The good news is that there are no errors yet. I'll report back when it does all 8.

Edit: is 2 hours per pass normal?
