When was the last time your system was cleaned of dust and thermal paste replaced?

Over the years I have checked with Gigabyte and the same BIOS update has been offered for mouse functionality. Gigabyte website and some IT friends I have spoken too recommend not updating the BIOS if the system is functioning, so I tried Intel and downloaded an Intel Driver Utility Tool to check my system but it came up with nothing to update. I know for a fact I needed to update the drivers for my hardware so I looked into Driver Utilities and came across Driver Easy, which has been a "blessing", I had 34 outdated drivers as it pulls from a database of all the manufacturer's websites https://www.drivereasy.com/. Normally I'm one to shy away from software like this but I recommend it for anybody. I imagine the generic_usb_driver issue I had could be related to this, so far since yesterday afternoon, I haven't run into any problems (crosses fingers). I haven't replaced any thermal paste in my PC, to be honest that's the one thing I'm uncomfortable with doing. I took my PS3 to a guy sometime ago and I know I can get another 8 to 10 years out of it, but if applied wrong it can bubble up or leak around the sides and you can ruin the mobo...Is PC easier or different in someway? Id be willing to try if things were a bit easier. Putting together the computer is easy but applying the thermal paste is where I would be concerned.

I agree with Gigabyte and your friends, but I'm only talking about drivers, not the BIOS.

Tools like drivereasy are strongly not recommended!
Gigabyte will provide 99% of all drivers you need, any drivers like for GPU and peripheral just get those from the manufacturer. Don't go through the trouble of searching for software to make it 'easy', spend a few minutes searching for the right drivers. Using tools like drivereasy is more than definitely a regret!

I know your feeling on this and trust me I'm the same way but this program lists all your PC components specs and everything down to there manufacturer. It pulls and updates from the manufacturer, I was looking at each driver and there version, and when it pulled from Intel I was installing Intel components and updating as needed, if there are any issues I can revert back. So right now the proof is in the pudding and so far I have had no issues in fact my computer is running solid. My wife back in college was also having many BSOD, of driver related issues and chose to install a similar Driver Utility and for 10 years she says has never had a driver or BSOD related issue, so at the moment I keep my reservations and will see what happens but right now I'm in great shape, my PC also boots much faster than it ever did and performance in my games has also improved by a large margin, so at the moment just going to kick back and see. Additionally, I checked Gigabyte's website for drivers and they offer no support for drivers what so ever, when I do a search it pulls up Ads but nothing official from Gigabyte. Like I said I was trying Gigabytes site even way before this but they have never offered support regarding drivers.

In terms of thermal paste I found Arctic MX-4 which seems to be the best recommended non-conducive and easiest to apply thermal paste even for beginners. I watched some videos and firmly believe I can accomplish this, so thanks for the heads up on that, but I'll keep you posted.

Performance improvements is usually due to lack of system maintenance, this would be unnoticeable for many if they just perform some maintenance once in a while.

You'll may want to use advanced disk cleanup to save space from WU updates that are redundant, old driver package installations (from WU), temp folders and a few more. Ccleaner is an addition to temp folders and other log files mainly.

One last thing about driver update programs, you may be aware of it. Programs will always have bugs in them, 1 small bug could corrupt the downloads and thus the drivers you're trying to install.

This jv16powertools doesn't look right, looks like some all-in-one tool which are usually a no go to me.

Most importantly, any tool that claims to cleanup the registry or fix things in the registry is a big no.
Checking the main stuff in Wikipedia article, which looks like its been written by the company making jv16powertools (this is for me personally also a negative effect because it looks to be subjective). All those 'features', I don't see a reason to get this program since many, if not all, options are already in Windows, though some invisible for many (for (stability) reasons).

This is just my opinion, I won't try to convince you to not use this tool since you have control over your OS :)

- I have everything in IE checked, because I don't use it.
- Windows Explorer: Run (in Start Menu) and Network Passwords are unchecked
- System: Memory dumps, Chkdsk File fragments, WER, Start Menu shortcuts and Desktop shortcuts are unchecked
- Advanced: Old Prefetch data checked
This way I don't remove any data that may be crucial when my system becomes unstable, making troubleshooting easier since I wouldn't miss anything.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "as there is some conflicting information on what to remove". As far as I see there is no conflicted information.
