I looked in control panel and my C drive. How do I look for it in the registry? I have never done that sort of thing before and dont want to mess it up

Ok do this FIRST Registry - Backup and Restore make sure you let it download the current registry.

    Then
Start> type regedit (as in the beginning of the tutorial)
For safety sake just Open it (this will not let you change it that needs admin control)
When it is open go to the HKEY's - LOCAL_MACHINE and CURRENT_USER
Open them up by clicking on the blank arrows and they will open the listings downwards and show as black triangles do the same for Software and look to see if what you are looking for is listed.

Now if you finds what you want to get rid of then you must start all over again and right click and choose Run as admin and when you find the stuff you want to clear right click on the first entry and hit Delete.

Now if you should happen to hit the wrong key button whatever you still have the saved registry back up you van merge back in so it is important to Export the registry FIRST UP

If you want further guidance just post back a shot of what you find in the Software listing/s - it could be in both possibly and we can let you know what to do

See my pic of what you will find. But once more make sure you back up the registry as per tutorial

Tyvm for the reply, so I used option 2 in this link to create a backup System Restore Point - Create - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Also, I took screenshots of what I found in regedit, I will post them here

Ok George now mate please do that back up of the registryas per the link I gave you a restore point is ok but to be absolutelysafe you need to do what I linked if you don't you may lose the registry settings and I cannot advise you any more than that because should you delete the wrong entry then it means a clean install and I ma sure you do not want that.

Now the new BSOD is showing thisdump

    Code:
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)
Invalid system memorywas referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,
itmust be protected by a Probe. Typicallythe address is just plain bad or it
    is pointing at freedmemory.
    Arguments:
    Arg1:000001706f048938, memory referenced.
    Arg2: 0000000000000000,value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation.
Arg3:000007fecc013f38, If non-zero, the instruction address whichreferenced the bad memory
     address.
    Arg4:0000000000000008, (reserved)

Now I think you should now do this

    MEMTEST

Now to make absolutely we are on the same page the memtest linkedhere is the only onewe recommend

andit MUST be run for at least 8 passes oryou may as well not bother. It is rather lengthy and best left for adowntime for that machine - overnight is good. Having said that youcan stop the test if errors show up while you are around and then itis a matter of tracking down the bad stick of RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+[/U][/SIZE][/COLOR][/URL]

(This is pretyped to save time)

See the pic because it still has CCC there and I do see a lot of Apple stuff in the reg and I know quite a few of my friends and ex workmates that come to get the machine sorted and the Apple stuff can and does make it difficult and as you might have gathered I am not a fan of anything Apple but it is your choice.
Also pleas e remember 8 passes with the memtest .

Okay I made two backups of the reg, one of HKEYCURRENTUSER and one of HKEYLOCALMACHINE (included in picture). Should I do the mem tests first or delete the ATI Catalyst installer and the apple things in the reg?

Yep that's ok George now in the tutorial it describes back up the registry by clicking on File and the clicking Export that will backup the entire registry which is what you need to do . What you have done is ok but it is preferable to do the whole thing.
So type in the regedit then right click go to run as admin then File then Export don't open anything up and save it to wherever you want I usually put mine in a dedicated folder in Docs or the desktop see pics

Now do that and then do the memtest first please

No worries mate your schooling is far more important unless you need the machine for your studies -, Take it from an old fellow who never did much at school and regretted it everyday since these believe or not are the best days of your life so make good use of them.

Oh I did eventually wake up to myself in my early 20's and after much harder work got my certificate now I think they call them degrees (of what I don't know LOL!!) and spent the next 46 years working a full time RN.

I just ran a memtest on my man laptop the other day which was a nightmare to get going so if you have any problems please post back.:)
