BSOD opening Google Chrome, trying to use scandisk, transferring files

I have been getting a BSOD with Windows 7 Ultimate these last few days and have various error codes with each one. The BSOD happens when I try to open browser or transfer files from a usb or run scandisk or even when I tried to restore to an earlier working version of my OS. My computer is pretty much useless. I'm posting this using my laptop as it is working fine. I'll attach the zip file showing the crash dumps. I've done memtest and there are no errors from my ram. I constantly get messages saying various apps stopped working/responding even windows explorer. When I look to see installed updates there is none there.

    thank you for replying

I rebooted my computer into Windows and clicked on the URL in the email I received with this reply and a new window opened in Google Chrome then got the "Aw Snap" message from Chrome then I got the BSOD with "memory_management" as the issue. I have to boot into safe mode with networking for my Windows to be reasonably stable. I ran the dump software and will attach the results to this post. My computer is pretty much useless at this point as anything I do gives me the BSOD. Thanks

    Welcome to our forum Smitty962.

The first problem that needs to be solved is installing a proper Windows 7 with the proper COA key. You have a counterfeit installation of Windows 7 Ultimate.

    From your logs.

    Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00173
Original Install Date: 8/14/2012, 2:22:06 PM
System Boot Time: 8/1/2017, 7:19:24 AM
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: To be filled by O.E.M.
    System Type: x64-based PC
    Processor(s): 1 Processor(s) Installed.
    [01]: AMD64 Family 21 Model 2 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~4018 Mhz
BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. F3, 5/28/2015
    Windows Directory: C:\Windows

Your Product I.D. is for a Asus not a Gigabyte aftermarket retail motherboard.

    Win 7,Ultimate,Asus,XXXXX-OEM-8992662-00173
Do you have one of these on or in your computer that can be used?

    Jack
Thanks for the reply, I built the computer myself and it had been running with no issues or indications that Windows 7 was not genuine and these problems just surfaced in the last 3 days. It's virtually unusable with a BSOD every time I try to do something. In any case I don't have a COA and am running the computer in safe mode with some modicum of stability. Do you think a reinstall of the OS would solve these problems?
    Thanks

    NO

Windows updates are currently experiencing problems.

and more than likely will break the exploit in use.

Time to buy a genuine licence.

There you smitty mate I would seriously get onto whoever or wherever you bought that copy from unless it is one you had already and were not a ware of the rules that govern the restrictions of any actual copy of Windows.

If it is a copy you had already and the machine it was on had broken then a quick call to Microsoft and explain the situation they might let you use that code again. I am not completely sure with the company licence stuff that Jack and Roy have mentioned so stand to be corrected of course.

If you do need to buy a new copy then please make sure of the validity of the site you are buying from there are lots of sharks out there lingering.

For example I recently bought a copy of Windows 10 from a seller on EBay for $$10!! knowing full well it was a scam - why? because I wanted to get this ratbag off of EBays books to save anyone who would not necessarily know it was a scam and was caught out by call it what you will a thief.

Just out of interest his method was to advertise this copy of Windows and then send the unsuspecting individual the original free upgrade key and a download link we have on the this forum.

If you are interested then all you need is to buy a key and then download an iSO form this tutorial link
Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums > see pic for the best link to get it from because you need a valid key before you can actually download the copy of Windows you have bought the key for.

Let us know how you get on eh??

Thank you for the info, I had run Memtest86 a few times on my ram which is a 4Gb stick and a 8Gb stick with no resulting errors. I decided to pull the 4Gb ram out and run the single 8Gb ram and since then have had no BSOD issues (fingers crossed) At this point I think the crashes were caused by the 4Gb ram. The recommended ram combinations for my Gigabyte board are equal amounts of ram of the same brand when using two sticks in the appropriate slots and while they were in the appropriate slots the were unequal amounts ie. 4 and 8Gb and different brands. It has been running fine for the last couple of days with no spontaneous reboots or BSOD's. Just hoping the issue has been corrected

Yep smitty mate I suspect you may not have run the memtest long enough mate if the problem has gone because it is useless running less than 8 passes I know it takes a long time but for future times mate always let it run at least 8 passes unless you get errors more or less straight away.

Now the single stick of RAM is good but it is always worth remembering that (and I say this from my own personal viewpoint) memory is run in channels that is to say there are two channels that run from the CPU to the RAM and that the memory is more quickly accessed if it done through two channels.

So say for example you have two water tanks (CPU & RAM) and they are connected with one 4 inch tube (one channel) the water will flow ok though the one tube until the next tank is loaded and that takes place at a set speed. However if you have two tubes of 4 inch bore then it follows the second tank will fill twice as fast as the one tube setup.

So the very best thing to have set up is 2x4GB sticks which will use the two channels (tubes) rather than the one channel (tube) of 1x8GB. This of course as I said my own personal theory on the issue and I stand to be corrected of course. Now the trick is when you buy RAM then get it in matched pairs that is to say the sticks will have come from the same production batch and be very closely matched in speed and timings. You can tell they are because the production batch serial numbers will be consecutive.

I am not saying what you have is wrong far from it and I think if you were to get another 8GB and put it in the secondary channel (slot) then you would notice the difference in performance. Just keep that in mind mate for next time but the second stick will need to be closely matched to the one you have in speed and timings .

Now I have you thoroughly confused there is this you might like to use too

     USING OPTIMISE TUTORIAL

Just a little something that will make your machine a little faster and more efficient is this Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

It is my bible when installing an OS on my machines and also when I am fixing friends and family machines too.

Now if you go through it slowly you will find lots of tweaks and they are all really thoroughly done by the authour Brink a fellow who is in my mind brilliant and if you need to ask questions he is just the most obliging person around.

The other thing is that you may lose some of the "bling" such as transparency (you don't have to I find it unnecessary) and all the tweaks are reversible.

If you do get stuck just post back in that tutorial and you will get help. Another bonus using this tutorial is that it helps you find your way around your machine and Windows 7!

Just one tip I would say you start with is do this Registry - Backup and Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums do this and it will save you a lot of grief if you are ever doing things in the registry and even if you don't it is a good back up to have if your system ever gets corrupted.
