The USB key was made incorrectly.

    You can follow this
    .

Then when going to install, you can format while installing. When it comes up to the hard drive options, click advanced to get to the formatting part.

ok, so i think ive got a big problem. booted from the pen drive, got to the very first screen which was to select language and BLUE SCREENED! except this one is still on and says:

A problem has been detected etc...

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

If this is the first time........
    etc etc........

    Technical info:
    *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x982ECB40, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8ACE49B2)

Mean anything? Dont know what to do now.

It's probably because something in the bios is set incorrectly. Probably related to RAM.

If there's a setting for Plug and Play OS, set it to yes.

After, if that doesn't help, run Memtest86+ overnight to test the RAM modules for defects.

just running the windows memory diagnostic tool, status says that hardware problems were detected, to identify and repair these problems you will need to contact the computer manufacturer. might know more when it finishes and reboots.

i bought this second hand a month or so ago however the laptop only dates to april 09 which was when it was bought. would i be able to return it to anywhere if its a hardware failure? I would have thought it should be covered by a manufacture guarantee or something?

    Thankyou again for the help!
Just wanted to let you know that i run the windows memory diagnostics tool (dont know how and probably couldnt do it again as i stumbled across it somewhere?) Anyway it said there was a hardware problem.

I checked on the samsung website and it said the netbooks have 12 months warranty and i know this one wasnt made untill april 2009 so should still be under warranty even though i bought it second hand. I found the customer services number for samsung (0)1932 454358, gave them a call and they are coming to collect it tuesday for repairs. I dont rightly know what im doing and ive been messing with it all day along with cooking the dinner and my patience has worn very thin with it. Lets see what they come up with!

    Again thankyou!!!
