BSOD while Optimizing ("defrag") SSD Disk

    Hi...

I have all my PC datas in my description, don't know if I'm supposed to repost them here.

starting today I noticed a problem with Auslogics Disk Defrag slowing, then blocking and finally BSODing my PC, always at the same spot (67.67% of the "TRIM" process, right after "Optimization") when I try an "Optimize SSD" on my C:\ system-disk.

When I defrag the other drive (wich is a standard 750MB hard disk, divided into two partitions) everything runs smooth, both standard defrag or the more complex one; when I try to "defrag" the SSD (I mean I use the proper SSD option in Auslogics Disk Defrag, I am obviously not defragmenting my SSD!) I notice the program stopping at 67.67% of the "TRIM" process that goes on right after "Optimization" has finished. It NEVER happened to me before nor I remember modifying things to my BIOS or to my system right before the problem started

So when I reach 67.67% of the "TRIM" the program stucks at that point (the program being responsive and all, just not making any progress in the process") and then, after a few minutes, PC starts slowing down and finally BSODs. I can't report about the BSOD's nature because I have no data about it whatsoever (it lasts like 1 tenth of a second and I have no trace of errors in the Windows minidump folder).
The PC is not stressing right before the BSOD (no cpu or ram usage increase, I know it because I have monitoring programs; no overheating, nothing strange via hardware, it just BSODs).

CrystalDiskInfo is not reporting anything strange.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Auslogics Disk Defrag. I tried running it while in Windows safe mode (in stucks in the very same way but at 67.83% instead of 67.67, which is kinda odd...)
I tried a chkdisk before OS's startup (no errors). I tried to check the integrity of the file system via cmd (no errors). I tried scanning the system in safe mode with both 360 Total Security AND Malwarebytes (no error reports).

Now I stopped trying to defrag the drive since everytime it left me a new DDSSDTRIMTEMPxxxx.dat file in C:\ and I am concerned about hurting my SSD's health (it has a few months, it was a birthday present and worked fine till now).

I am freaking out and don't know what to do. Next step, I'll try defragging (Optimizing, of course) it via Linux and see if it stucks at the same point.

I'll try to attach a .zip containing all the .txt files of a report obtained by a program I downloaded on this site.

Thank you for any kind of support.

    Diagnostics Test

     HDD TEST

       Note
Please run HDTune first, in the order posted!

    Run HDTune to
    • check the health,
    • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    • run a benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
    • the health,
    • the error scan,
    • the benchmark incl. following
      • transfer rate,
      • access time,
      • burst rate,
      • cpu usage.

Run SeaTools DOS to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
    Run the long test.
       Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

    Run chkdsk

Use option TWO with parameter /r

    Thank you!
    I resolved the problem.

It appears somehow my BIOS settings got screwed up by something (I don't remember changing them just prior of the defrag but since it's an old BIOS, not accessible via OS, I don't think it may be a virus).

So my Storage Configuration changed from AHCI 6gb/s to IDE 3gb/s. I changed them back to the correct value and the issue was solved.

Now I must understand if I have some virus hitting my BIOS (!? never happened in 27 years...) or if I'm just an idiot.

Thank you for the support :)

Because of the amount of hard drive related errors in your event log I would recommend to run the suggested tests.

I plan on running the first two tests.
Is it safe to perform a chkdisk /r scan on a SSD?

The second test is better not run on an SSD, as the note says.

Chkdsk is for the filesystem on the drive so yes.

I ran all possible tests with HD-Tune Pro on both SSD and HDD (couldn't run certain write benchmarks because both storage hardwares are partitioned and the program refused to comply).

I will try the other scan program on the HDD asap.

The chkdsk I already tried (no errors) but I will re-execute it withthe /r command.

Your Samsung hard drive is getting to its end, although it may be months to a few years before it totally fails. The results explain the errors in the eventlog.
