Hi folks. Been getting BSOD after sleep. New hardware complicating

Hi friends, I used a Driver Update Utility about a month ago and it changed a lot of drivers. I began to get BSOD when I moved the mouse to wake the computer up. There was no way that I knew to undo the driver update--I tried going back to a restore point before the Drive Updater did its dirty deed but was denied the ability to do that. I've been living with it and taking shots at trying to find an answer. Nothing has gotten rid of it but it doesn't crash multiple times now. But over the weekend I bought a product called "11 Rack" which runs from Avid's music Digital Audio Work Station Software called Pro Tools. I've downloaded everything. But now I get the BSOD any time I turn the power on on the 11 Rack unit (which is expensive and sophisticated). In the instructions it says to us USB 2.0 and I made sure to do that as my computer has several USB 3.0 ports.

I don't want to have to send this all back. I even bought and constructed a wing for my studio desk to sit the !! Rack on. I have followed the instructions to produce a Zip file full of .dmps. I hope someone can give me a lead on what to do. Anything is appreciated. Attached is my zip file

I haven't looked at the dumps. But, I would suspect the final outcome is you are going to have to do a clean install. A clean install is probably better anyway since you want to use the PC for your "DAW" workstation and have a "clean" PC that won't suffer from dropouts, bad latency, etc. I have a recording studio (I'm using Sonar but transitioning to Studio One 3) and have been through getting my PC "cleaned up" so I can use it for recording.

I saw the Eleven Rack sale at Sweetwater. I'm not a ProTools fan or I may have sprung for it, to add to my studio.

The Resplendence Latency Mon program is an excellent tool to determine if your PC is ready for recording.

Never use those driver updaters. They often can recommend incorrect or unneeded drivers. Since you have a Dell, best to just use the Dell drivers.

Thanks, fire.

I pulled the trigger on the Sweetwater sale. It seems there's a stand-alone editor that lets you create presets. I spent 90 min on the phone with SW's tech support and they were very helpful. The dude even gave me a copy of the stand-alone editor. It's "free" but with AVID there are always "strings". Anyway, it's looking like they may have solved my BSOD issue--although it might just be that we're going around a problem without knowing exactly what it was. I got th BSOD every time the computer went to "sleep". When it would "wake" it would go blue. So one thing is that the tech changed my settings so that it can't sleep.

He looked at one of the dumps and surmised that my driver for the USB 3.0 ports was wrong or bad. Once we upgraded to the latest Intel driver, I have at least been able to turn on 11 Rack without a crash and the driver installation proceeded. The "string" that is attached is that when trying to install the stand-alone editor, it calls for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 redistributable (x64). I located this at Microsoft an installed it but I keep getting a failure and a message saying that it can't find my AVID files. I'll be looking into that first thing tomorrow but will be corresponding wih AVID instead of Sweetwater. Things are looking up though. At the very least, I could use the LCD screen because the unit is not on the floor like a Line 6 floor F/X processor. I'm 62 and girthy and have trick knees (torn meniscus). I hate rooting around on all fours trying to dial in some sounds. nstead I built a wing onto my desk and have a small rack which I have the 11 Rack and a power "conditioner" rack box for any a/c I might need.

Thanks for replying. I'll post again if and when I'm confident that the BSOD nightmare is over for good.

Great. Sweetwater helped me out several times. I had a problem with Pro Tools (Avid software) and Sweetwater got me going where the Avid forum did not. Same way getting my Behringer X-Touch control surface setup.

At 62 I was still working in a road band with Tommy Cash. I'm pushing 80 now, but still working in a band and my recording studio.

But, bottom line use the Dell drivers if any are needed.

I hope I can be as youthful pushing 80. Hell, I hope I'm still around, period. God Bless.

Boom, onboard sound and LAN fail. As in won't even appear in device manager. The things I uninstalled and physically removed were one of two IDE (I know, shoot me) optical drives, the software included a bunch of uninstalls at once before I shut it off and removed the drive. Uninstalled iTunes,...
