    BSOD - sfc says: fde.dll, fdeploy.dll and gptext.dll corrupt.

The Win 7 version is Home Premium.

The PC just won't boot. I can get into to safe mode and run sfc /scannow. It tells me it can't repair fde.dll, fdeploy.dll and gptext.dll. They are corrupt in both c:\windows\system32 and WinSxS.

I have tried replacing the 3 files manually with the MS guideline of:
    takeown /f
    icacls / GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F
and them copying know good versions of the files from another PC.

I can find the file in WinSxS to replace, it seem a bit of a minefield with 12,000+ objects and very long names.

I could just wipe it and re-install but it would nice to try and fix it with the sledge hammer approach although i have been tempted.

Is it possible to use DISM to mount the install.wim file on the Windows CD and use it to repair the WinSxS directory ?

Have you tried to do a Start up Repair. This Forum tutorial might help you try that.

    Hi Ac427,

You cannot use DISM its also not totally W7 compliant, as long as you have W7 SP1 media, with that many errors, go for a repair install

    Thank you Roy and Ranger4.

I can only get into the Windows desktop in Safe mode. I guess this rules out a Repair Install ?

Sadly the Startup Repair failed also.

Also the fde.dll, fdeploy.dll and gptext.dll seem to stem from a Group Policy install (Possibly from Windows Update) that i believe is not supported under Windows 7 Home Premium.

I could try running SFCFix.exe by Niemero with windows cd in drive http://www.sysnative.com/niemiro/apps/SFCFix.exe
