I often have "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error when watching videos or playing games so I assume it is something related to the graphics card?

I would appreciate any help on my issue. Thanks!

Hi Vanja126,

Welcome to SF. If you are getting the error "display driver stopped responding and has recovered", this can be related to your bad graphic card drivers, overheating PC or dirt in the hardware or bad hardware (RAM, graphic card or even mother board). We can check that after you check with below.

Please share the model and make of your graphic card. Remove the current drivers for the card, use DriverSweeper to clean the tit bits of the old driver. Install the latest supporting graphic card.
Clean out the cabinet of any dust and make sure you have good air supply.

Most important, keep us updated after doing this.

BSOD was a one-time thing, but display driver error keeps happening during watching a video or playing games. The temperature of graphics card does not exceed 75 C during game play and it seems to not be related to random errors that happen even at lower temperatures. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers. I tried following solutions in the past without improvement:

- cleaning out all the fans
- opening up a computer case
- used Driver Sweeper to clean up a graphics driver, then install the latest one
- used Driver Sweeper to clean up a driver, then install several older ones
- memtest - show no errors
- EVGA OC scanner for graphic tets - show no errors
- downclocking graphics card
- setting up optimal power options in control panel and Nvidia panel
- turning off Asus anti-surge protection in BIOS (it actually helped me for a month or two when I had no errors, but it still happens now even with this option turned off)

In this case, I would suggest to take out the RAM DIMM from a slot and running the PC with single DIMM at a time. It might be an issue with the RAM DIMM or the PCI E slot.
